Crystal Palace vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League result and reaction as Blues held to draw
Crystal Palace rescued a point at Selhurst Park after Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a late equaliser to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw and extend their run without a win.
The Blues looked in control of the game after a first half strike from Cole Palmer ended up in the back of the net after some individual brilliance from Jadon Sancho on the right wing.
Chelsea couldn’t capitalise on their dominance though and Palace slowly got themselves back into the game. With the momentum firmly on their side Eberechi Eze supplied a pass to Mateta inside the final 10 minutes and the striker beat Robert Sanchez to salvage a point for the hosts.
The result keeps Chelsea fourth in the table but they are still nine points behind Liverpool while Palace move six points clear of the relegation zone and slowly keep distancing themselves from the drop.

It’s full-time in South London and the points are shared between Crystal Palace and Chelsea, which in the end was a fair reflection of the game. The match began with Chelsea heaping pressure onto the home team, which was initially weathered. However, after 14 minutes, Chelsea took the lead. Sancho found Palmer in an inch of space inside the box before he spun and shot into the back of the net, down to Henderson’s left side. Chelsea looked to build on the lead, with Jackson missing several chances, including one that he really should’ve bagged before half-time. Palace went into the break a goal down but with their spirit still intact. This was evident shortly after the restart when Munoz found Eze in the middle of the box, but the Palace star failed to get his shot on target from a few yards out. Palace continued working, whilst risking their defensive stability. Chelsea missed a few more chances for good measure, and they would later regret them. The end-to-end game showed its true value as Palace finally broke through the Chelsea defence and levelled up the score in the 82nd minute. Eze was played through the middle of the Chelsea defenders and rather unselfishly squared the ball to Mateta, who was ready and waiting for the pass. He smashed in from close range to make the score 1-1, and that’s how the game ended. Chelsea go back to the West with a point, but the happier team will be Palace as they continue to build on their points total. In the game, Palace created 1.01 xG and Chelsea created 1.30 xG, highlighting how attacking the match was. Thank you for joining this live text commentary, goodbye!

Into the last minute or so now and the score is still level! Do any of these players fancy making themselves a hero? They need to act quickly if so.

Palmer’s wide free-kick is cleared by Mateta who has been as good in defending set-pieces as he has been at holding the ball up front.

There will be four added minutes for either team to find a winner!

Wow! Fernandez is extremely lucky to still be on the pitch as he fouled Lacroix poorly, and very high up his leg. The referee gave the foul but felt that no further action was required.

Sancho makes way after nearly 90 minutes of action and an assist under his belt. He is replaced by Madueke.

Palace stand strong against another quick Chelsea break, as Neto’s shot is blocked by Guehi and goes behind for a corner which Chelsea tried to take quickly. The plan doesn't work so they settle for a throw.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:35
Well, the referee has just fallen for a childish move from Neto there. He saw that the tackle was coming in from Lerma, so flicked the ball away from him before running into the Palace man. The referee calls a foul, and Chelsea have a free-kick in midfield.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:34
It’s getting to crunch time for both sides. Chelsea desperately want to hold on, and Palace desperately want an equaliser. They’ve been good for it too, and probably deserve to have scored at least one.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:32
CLOSE AGAIN! This time it’s Palace who nearly scored! Munoz robbed Sancho of the ball outside the box and fed Mateta on the right. His shot was blocked by Colwill and floated marginally over the bar. What a half this has been.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:30
CLOSE! Enzo fired just wide of the left post as he side-footed a shot from outside the box, and then moments later Jackson dragged another shot wide as he shot for the opposite post from the left side of the box. That can only have been a couple of centimetres outside of the woodwork.

Oliver Glasner is the first manager to roll the dice. Sarr comes off after a relatively quiet performance, when compared with the last few weeks. He is replaced by Kamada.

More Chelsea fouls come flying in, with the latest being Cucurella on Sarr. They are doing their best job of breaking the game up as we head into the last 20 minutes.

The first yellow card of the game has been shown in the direction of Colwill, for a late challenge on Doucoure. The VAR checked for a potential red card, but the onfield decision stands.

A rendition of the away fans' favourite chant breaks out as they shout “Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea” repeatedly. Maximum points for volume, fewer points for creativity.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:20
It is becoming clearer by the minute how much this win would mean for Chelsea. Now that they have the lead, they aren’t allowing Palace to play their game, whether that means bringing them down at any given moment, or taking time over each dead ball.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:18
Chelsea are now enjoying a moment of rest as they knock the ball around from left to right in defence. Not many Palace players are pressing them.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:15
WHAT A SAVE! Richards met an Eze free-kick that came in from the right, and Sanchez leapt like a cat to tip the header just over the bar. That was the closest that Palace have come yet.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:13
Chelsea have just been knocked out of their rhythm slightly, as their passing has become a bit disjointed and less care in going into each sequence. They aren’t home and dry yet!
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:10
Palace are certainly grinding this Chelsea team down now, Sanchez just tried a throw out from his box that missed the target completely. He is now taking a long, long time over each kick or throw - to the annoyance of the home crowd.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:08
WHAT A MISS!!! Eze should have drawn Palace level! They go down the right AGAIN through Munoz and this time he picks out Eze who is in the middle of the box and unmarked. He snatches at the shot and ends up dragging it wide of the left post. Huge chance.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:07
Munoz found space again on the right, but Palace failed to make anything from it. A couple of minutes later, the game is back in a calm state, with Chelsea in possession.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
16:04
Palace get the ball rolling again, and the second half is underway!
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:57
Looking to the second half, Palace need to focus on turning their attacks into actual chances. Munoz has had a bit of space on the right but has had no options inside the box to pick out. That is just one example of how they could do better, and Oliver Glasner will be going into detail inside the changing rooms right now. For Chelsea, it will be more of the same as they head into the second half. They could have and should have been further ahead, so if they continue making chances then you would expect another to be put away.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:53
Chelsea are ahead at the break thanks to a Palmer goal in the 14th minute. The game began with a heavy load of Chelsea pressure, with them unable to find an even earlier breakthrough than they eventually did. Palace weathered the storm, but a few minutes after calming the game down, Sancho found Palmer with a moment of space inside the Palace box. Palmer didn’t hesitate to shoot, and he found the back of the net with a left-footed shot that beat Henderson down to his left. Palace picked up after the goal, and have threatened with some good-looking attacks, but they have failed to create any big chances as of yet. Chelsea, however, have and they have Jackson to blame for why they’re not further ahead. He missed a great chance in the 39th minute but shot wide. The Opta live win probability says there is a 9.5% chance of a Palace win, 19.6% for a draw and a 70.8% chance of a Chelsea win. So far, Palace have created 0.11xG, which is overshadowed by Chelsea’s 0.88xG.

There will be one added minute!
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:45
We are heading towards the break now, can Palace find an equaliser before half-time that they have been threatening, or can Chelsea add to their advantage?
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:44
The shot goes straight into the Chelsea wall, and the game continues with Chelsea in possession. As you were.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:42
Caicedo commits a foul on the edge of his own box, giving Palace a chance as we near half-time. Eze is over it.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:40
HUGE CHANCE! Jackson went through again after a sublime pass from Palmer. He stood up Lacroix before attempting a shot with the outside of his foot, which went wide! He should’ve done better there, Jackson.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:39
Palace are now putting on a fair bit of pressure! They had the ball in and around the Chelsea box for a few minutes, as the attacks ended with Eze poking a high shot at Sanchez.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:36
CLOSE! Mateta shoots wide! Munoz picked up the ball on the right and sent a ball back to Mateta on the edge of the box. The striker hit it first time and sent it spinning inches wide of the left post. Better from Palace.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:35
Some trouble at the back for Palace as Henderson played a very stray pass, that went in the direction of the corner flag! It was quickly amended, and Chelsea have won the ball back in their half.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:33
Palmer has created three chances in this game, more than any other player (ahead of Neto - one chance). Just a reminder that we are only in the 31st minute.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:30
CHANCE! Acheampong arrives at the back post and meets Palmer’s corner, but his downward header goes wide of the post and his chance for a Premier League goal passes him by!
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:28
Chelsea are doing a really good job in midfield to contain any potential through balls that Palace conjure up. Most of the passes up to Mateta and co. have been lofted, and have been dealt with by Colwill.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:27
Interestingly, despite not worrying Sanchez in goal, most of the play has been in the Chelsea third in the last five minutes. Perhaps a small sign of Palace growing into the game.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:25
Chelsea look in total control of this game already, and Palace don’t look like they will threaten them much, going off the opening 25 minutes or so. The home team haven’t had a proper sight of goal yet.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:23
Palace had a chance to break through Eze, but his final touch before looking to get a shot away was heavy, and the attack fizzled out after as none of his team mates could take over.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:20
Jackson is fouled by Lacroix, which presents Chelsea with a free-kick situation, around 30 yards out from the goal. Palmer and Fernandez are over it.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:19
That’s a poor start to the game by Palace, they weathered the initial Chelsea storm but then had a lapse in concentration and they now find themselves a goal behind.

Even though we are still in the early parts of this game, it looks to be a very open affair. As soon as one team’s attack breaks down, the other wastes no time in building one of their own. It feels like a Tennis match with how much the players are up and down the pitch.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:13
The game has calmed down slightly now as Palace enjoy a period of sustained possession. They needed a breather after that quick start from Chelsea.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:12
What a tackle that was from Richards! Jackson was played clean through on the right side of the box, but as he was about to pull the trigger, a big sliding tackle came in from the American.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:09
Chelsea already look very dangerous inside the opening 10 minutes. They are going forward at each opportunity and look likely to score every time.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:08
Chelsea got themselves two corners in quick succession after Fernandez’s first attempt was cleared away at the front post. Palmer took the second set-piece, but a big header from the Palace defence meant the danger was cleared.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
15:05
The first shot of the game goes Chelsea’s way and it’s Sancho who sends his shot flying a long way over the bar on the volley.

Crystal Palace have failed to pick up points in their opening game of a calendar year since 2021, when they beat Sheffield United 2-0. They are up against a hungry Chelsea side here, so that record may continue for another year.

Will Hughes picked up a foot injury last time out against Southampton, so he is unavailable for selection. Adam Wharton has had another setback to his return, so Doucoure slots into midfield alongside Lerma. Trevoh Chalobah is unable to play against his parent club, so Richards retains his play in defence alongside Guehi, who captains the side. For Chelsea, there are plenty of changes to talk about as Maresca shakes things up after their recent loss. Sancho, Neto and Jackson all return to start in attack as they replace Felix, Nkunku and Madueke respectively. Acheampong and Gusto start side-by-side on the right side of the defence, and Fernandez captains the side.

As for Enzo Maresca’s side, they were flying in the Premier League until a few gameweeks ago. They are now winless in three Premier League games, where they faced Everton, Fulham and Ipswich. The last on that list was Chelsea’s most recent fixture, and they lost 2-0 to the newly promoted Suffolk side. Liam Delap provided a goal and assist in the first half to secure all three points for Ipswich, with no reply. Chelsea will want to use this game as a way to get their form back on track against a side that they historically love playing against.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
14:38
Oliver Glasner’s team has begun to find some much-needed form after a start to the season that halted their progress. Their most recent game was a 2-1 win against bottom-of-the-table Southampton and those three points meant that Palace provisionally moved up to 15th in the league. The pressure on them has eased somewhat, and now they have breathing space between them and the bottom three. With a win against Chelsea, they could move as high as 13th in the Premier League, but they know it won’t be easy.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
14:38
The last time these sides faced each other in the Premier League, the game ended 1-1 back in September 2024! Eberechi Eze scored shortly after half-time to level up the score, as Nicolas Jackson had put the home team ahead after 25 minutes. The overall head-to-head record between the two sides is not pretty reading for the side from South London, with only four wins out of the last 25 meetings. Chelsea have won 20 of those and will look to add another one here, as they haven’t lost to Crystal Palace in the previous 15 meetings.
