The Eagles have been in the market for a central defender all summer, and this was made even more urgent when new defensive signing Chadi Riad limped out of EFL Cup action in midweek.
Meanwhile, the club let Joachim Andersen join Fulham and Marc Guéhi is said to be wanted by Newcastle after his excellent performances for England in EURO 2024.
Frenchman Lacroix joined Wolfsburg in 2020 and has since made 130 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
