'Crazy' FA Cup draw would be 'a dream' - Romeny

New Oxford United forward Ole Romeny says it would be "a dream" to play at "crazy stadiums" if the Championship club can progress in this season's FA Cup.

The U's enter the competition by visiting League One side Exeter City on Saturday (15:00 GMT), their first game since Romeny joined from Dutch top-flight club Utrecht in what is believed to be a club-record deal.

"Everyone knows the FA Cup - I think it's the biggest cup competition in the world," the 24-year-old told BBC Radio Oxford.

"It [will be] really nice to play games in the FA Cup. You imagine playing at crazy stadiums, it's a dream.

"But let's play it round by round - it's not like we're already through. We have to win and then see who we get."

Oxford have reached the fourth round only once in the past seven seasons, although their position outside of the second tier meant they had to win more games to reach that stage because of entering in the first round.

They were knocked out at home by Premier League title challengers Arsenal last season but now face opponents who are 14th in the third tier after consecutive defeats.

Romeny, who scored twice in 13 games this season for the third-placed side in the Eredivisie, has not played since making a substitute appearance on 8 December for his former club.

He was an unused substitute in Utrecht's two most recent fixtures and has not trained for around two weeks because of the winter break in the Netherlands, with Oxford manager Gary Rowett saying he will not be immediately involved in first-team action.

"The medical staff are really professional and will let me slowly come in the group," said Romeny.

"I have to be a little patient but I cannot wait to train [fully] and play with the guys. The Championship is fantastic - it is such a good competition with its history, everyone knows it all over the world.

"There are great teams, great stadiums and amazing atmospheres. Oxford have so many plans and huge ambitions, so it's nice to be a part of it."

Former NEC, Willem II and Emmen striker Romeny was Oxford's first signing under Rowett since he succeeded Des Buckingham on 20 December, with the U's adding Chelsea loanee Alex Matos on Friday.

After winning 10 points in the first four games of his tenure, the ex-Birmingham City and Millwall boss sees his new recruit as having the potential to play across a front four.

"I'm a player who likes to get the ball at my feet and bring some creativity," added Romeny.

"Without the ball, I like to get in spaces and be dangerous. Most importantly, I want to get the ball in the box, score goals and make a difference."
