Was Dallas Cowboys’ loss to Saints a ‘disaster’? That’s what federal agency declared. Why?

How bad was the Dallas Cowboys’ season-opening loss to the New Orleans Saints.

It was a “major disaster” according to a national agency.

That’s what FEMA declared in a training release accidentally sent to some members of the media after the Saints’ 44-19 trouncing of the Cowboys on Sept. 15 at AT&T Stadium.

While the loss was horrible for Cowboys fans to digest, it doesn’t come close to the misery that hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters that FEMA usually tracks.

A Washington, D.C., television reporter posted a screenshot of the FEMA press release to X this week. The release included the “disaster” notation.

“FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Texas to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 15, 2024,” the release stated.

The Saints improved to 2-0 with the lopsided win; the Cowboys dropped to 1-1.

Dallas returns to the field on Sunday when it hosts the Baltimore Ravens at 3:20 p.m. at AT&T Stadium.

The Saints host Philadelphia in New Orleans on Sunday at noon.
