Couple gets married during 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, officiated by Cheez-It mascot

With just a few hours remaining until the ball drops in Times Square, the final weddings of 2024 are taking place around the country.

That even includes the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.

Erin Doolin and Erik Yates from Maryland tied the knot during a commercial timeout in the first half of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl between No. 14 South Carolina and No. 21 Illinois inside Camping World Stadium on Tuesday with their officiant being the Cheez-It mascot, Ched-Z.

Shortly after the ceremony finished up on the field, the newly married couple was driven over to their afterparty site in the right corner of one of the end zones. It remains unknown if their wedding cake's flavor was cheddar cheese like the Cheez-Its themselves.

As things stand, Illinois is currently leading South Carolina at halftime 7-3 thanks to a 15-yard touchdown pass from Fighting Illini quarterback Luke Altmyer to Zakhari Franklin. The Gamecocks had an opportunity to bring the score to 7-6 heading into the locker room but kicker Alex Herrera missed a 41-yard field goal.

If Illinois is able to come out with the victory Tuesday, it will reach 10 wins in a single season for the first time since 2001. However, if South Carolina is able to come-from-behind and pick up the win, the Gamecocks will finish with 10 wins for the first time in the Shane Beamer era and also the first time since 2013.
