Bet: Mason Appleton anytime goal (+400), Jets Sabres Under 5.5 goals (-105)
The Jets will be desperately looking for a bounce back win after dropping four straight games but entering a favourable matchup versus the Sabres. They've been able to beat Buffalo in five of their last seven matchups with under six goals in four of the seven games. Both teams have elite defences that are amplified with the play from their exceptional goaltenders.
Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck is the early favourite to win the Vezina trophy for the second year in a row with a 15-5-0 record and a 2.16 goals against average. He would be the first goaltender in over a decade to win the award back-to-back years since Martin Brodeur in 2007 and 2008. Buffalo has a stellar netminder of their own with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who has a 35-28-6 record and a 2.60 average since breaking out last season.
The scoring in the game will be limited but should still present a solid opportunity for Mason Appleton to break his 15-game goal drought. He's recorded just one point in his last 13 games and his line is due for a breakthrough as linemates Adam Lowry and Nino Niederreiter have seven combined goals over their last eight games. This is a matchup Appleton normally excels in with four goals and an assist for five points in his last four games against Buffalo
