CorSport: ‘Fate is marked’ – Fonseca helpless regardless of Milan derby result
Before this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina, the headlines are about Paulo Fonseca’s chances of survival, rather than anticipating a great game. A humiliating run-up to the derby for AC Milan fans.
Since his arrival, Fonseca has never had an attachment to the fans, and that ultimately stretches to the initial thoughts of the head coach before his appointment. When it was reported that the Portuguese coach was next in line, immediately there was backlash.
Since then, it has been a wave of less and more negativity, rather than positivity. In America, the questions were not as frequent with the side performing, but with the reservations of it being pre-season.
As the season started, things have gone from bad to worse for Fonseca, and with one win in five fixtures, he is ‘hanging on by a thread’. His football is not working, or the squad are not working with his football. Either way, he is facing the sack.
Questions have been asked about when/if it will arrive, and it is believed a decision could be made this weekend. However, the result may not matter. As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, his ‘fate is marked’, even with a positive result the scenario would not change.
