CorSera: Milan await signs from Bennacer while lining up Genoa star – the strategy
Ismael Bennacer took an important step forward in his recovery on Wednesday, but the AC Milan management are still planning a midfield signing.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) report that yesterday was an important day for Bennacer who returned to training at Milanello. The Algerian, who underwent surgery in mid-September after a severe calf injury, returned to the training ground for some individual work.
Before deciding whether to make a January investment on a midfielder, the management want to carefully evaluate how Bennacer’s return to the field goes. Milan are confident that the player can return to high levels, but this is the second serious injury in recent years.
Not only that but there can be no rushing him back into the fold. Although he is back in training, some estimates are talking about mid-January being the earliest we will actually see him taking part in a competitive game.
The directors have already identified a potential target in January to reinforce the midfield: it is Morten Frendrup of Genoa, who is currently the most appreciated profile and has Serie A experience.
The 23-year-old Dane is seen as an ideal man to complement the other pieces given that he ranks high in tackles and recoveries, while the sale of Luka Jovic or Noah Okafor could fund the move.
