CorSera: Leao wanted to play on against Verona but team doctor intervened
Rafael Leao wanted to carry on playing during Friday night’s win over Hellas Verona but he was stopped from doing so, a report claims.
As this morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress) reports, the tests Leao underwent yesterday revealed a left flexor issue that will keep him out for at least a week before the new checks. However, the good news is that it doesn’t seem to be a major concern.
Meanwhile, is a behind-the-scenes story about the injury that the Portuguese winger sustained at the Stadio Bentegodi after just under half an hour of play .Leao actually wanted to return to the field immediately after receiving medical attention because the pain was mild.
However, the team doctor – Dr. Mazzoni – wisely prevented him from doing so to avoid the situation worsening. With this move, his return for the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final on January 3 against Juventus is not out of the question, and instead is a possibility.
What is certain though is that Leao will have to miss the match against Roma one week from today, which will force Pauilo Fonseca to come up with further solutions amid what is already quite a difficult injury crisis to navigate.
