CorSera: Fonseca hands ‘deserved opportunity’ to Camarda for Cagliari-Milan

Francesco Camarda will be the big surprise in AC Milan’s starting XI for the game against Cagliari tonight. Of course, for the manager Paulo Fonseca, it’s not a surprise but rather a ‘deserved opportunity’ for the youngster.

At the age of 16 years, 7 months and 31 days, Camarda will become the youngest player in the three-points-per-win era to start for Milan. Having already made his debut in Serie A and in the Champions League, the start is the logical next step.

Today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) highlights the fact that in Fonseca’s eyes, this is by no means an emergency replacement but rather a ‘deserved opportunity’. The manager has great faith in the youngster and knows what he can give to the team, having had him in training for weeks now.

After the disallowed goal against Club Brugge, Camarda will be looking to get his first goal tonight. Above all, however, the focus is on putting in a good performance and working hard for the team just as Alvaro Morata does in that role.

Based on what we have seen in the ‘off-the-bench’-cameos, Camarda certainly likes to track back and help his teammates in the defensive phase as well.
