Coronation Street spoilers follow.

The following article contains discussion of rape and sexual misconduct.

Coronation Street has revealed a first look at Aadi Alahan and Amy Barlow's friendship taking a romantic turn.

The pair grow closer next week after Amy finds herself in trouble with the police.

As we've previously revealed, this Friday's episode (November 17) sees Amy bravely rush to the rescue when she sees a man called Dan spiking a woman's drink at a nightclub.

Amy steps in to warn the woman and gets her to safety. She then comes up with a plan to trap Dan as she approaches him and feigns a romantic interest.

While we can't reveal the exact details of what happens afterwards, next week's episodes open with Amy and Aadi both feeling nervous about the events of that night.

They hope that when Dan wakes up, he won't be able to remember what happened to him. This would put Amy in the clear after the drama at the club.

Shortly afterwards, Amy and Aadi's worst fears are realised when DS Swain summons them both down to the police station for questioning.

When Amy requests a solicitor, Dee-Dee Bailey arrives to offer her legal advice. DS Swain warns Amy that she could be looking at five years in prison for what she did.

Back on the Street later, Amy thanks Aadi for loyally standing by her.

Aadi leans in for a kiss and Amy responds, but as her ordeal with Aaron Sandford is still on her mind, she soon has second thoughts and pushes Aadi away as she feels a wave of panic.

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod recently previewed this storyline by telling Digital Spy and other press: "Amy will find herself driven to some fairly extreme lengths, in what she sees as an attempt to right some wrongs. She feels that she's acting in an entirely justified way. But it will fall to one of her friends to pull it back from the brink before she criminalises herself essentially, in a pursuit of what she believes to be a just outcome.

"I've just watched these scenes recently, and they are stomach-churningly good and entirely believable. I think Elle Mulvaney and Adam Hussain, who's the actor in the middle of it as Aadi, are fantastically good – both individually and together across this story.

"Indeed, this story is a really significant staging post in our ongoing fostering of this closeness between Aadi and Amy. It's them being best friends and having each other's back, come what may. It's a really, really long-range love story that we're hoping to tell with them. It's going to really engage the audience."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
