James Rodriguez ‘would love’ a return to European football after leaving Brazilian side Sao Paulo as a free agent.

Rodriguez is available on a free after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his deal at Sao Paulo, following a short spell with the side.

The 33-year-old was named Player of the Tournament at the Copa America this summer after inspiring Colombia’s run to a first final in 23 years, with Rodriguez setting a new record of six assists in a single edition to win the Golden Ball.

His performances are sure to alert teams with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder is open to a return to European football.

Rodriguez returned to South America last summer, after mixed spells at Everton, Al-Rayyan and Olympiacos after leaving Real Madrid.

He has won league titles in Portugal, Spain and Germany during his career to date and won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup. Rodriguez has scored 28 goals in 106 caps for Colombia, just six short of Radamel Falcao’s national record.
