Conte: ‘McTominay has goals in his blood’ for new look Napoli
Antonio Conte assures Scott McTominay has ‘goals in his blood’ as Napoli transform to a 4-3-3 formation with the ex-Manchester United midfielder against Monza.
It kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).
A victory here would make the Partenopei the new Serie A leaders, as Torino were beaten 3-2 today by Lazio on home turf.
“We must do well to construct moves, find the players in positions that allow us to attack. Monza are a tough opponent who will come here to defend well, so we are going to need patience tonight,” Conte told DAZN.
McTominay allows Conte to change Napoli tactics
They were in action midweek, thrashing Palermo 5-0 in the Coppa Italia, including the first goal for the club by McTominay, who starts this evening.
“Scott has goals in his blood, he’s very good at moving forward, has technique as well as height and physicality. He has in his DNA a good number of goals.”
They had opened the campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Verona, but have since won every game except for the 0-0 draw away to Juventus.
Considering they would be top of the table with a victory today, inevitably there are Scudetto questions, but ones Conte has no intention of answering.
“Positive spells have to be built and we are trying to do that in training. There can be no comparisons in terms of alchemy with two years ago. We are just trying to lay some foundations to bring Napoli back to being competitive in the near future.
“Self-confidence helps you believe in what you are doing, so inevitably the positive results and performances help.”
