Yahoo Sports ‘Congratulations on achieving your dream’ – Florentino Perez welcomes Mbappe to Real Madrid
As promised, Real Madrid welcomed Kylian Mbappe in style today at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the French superstar officially signing his contract being presented in front of a packed stadium.
Florentino Perez has long held the dream of signing the 25-year-old superstar while the player himself has had a lifelong dream of donning the Merengues’ jersey.
After several failed attempts in the past, the move finally happened this summer with Mbappe joining as a free agent after his contract at PSG expired.
And, Perez welcomed the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner to Real Madrid with an emotional speech in front of a packed Santiago Bernabeu.
‘Welcome home’
Starting off, Real Madrid president Perez congratulated Mbappe for achieving his dream and welcomed him to his ‘home’, saying:
“Dear Kylian, you are here. Welcome home and congratulations on achieving your dream. I know very well how excited you and your family are. You were here when you were 13 years old and we saw how your eyes sparkled.
“You will always remember that day in December 2012 when Zidane invited you to Real Madrid City, to meet those players you admired so much.”
Perez then stated that Mbappe was here, fulfilling his dream because he never gave up, like Real Madrid never do.
“That love of yours has given you the strength to break all the barriers that led you to this stadium. Since you were a child you have seen that things happen here that are difficult to explain,” he remarked.
“People talk about the magic of the Bernabéu, but we madridistas know why they happen. They happen because this team and these fans never give up and fight to the end.
“And you have achieved your dream because you have never given up. You have been able to overcome all adversity. Thank you for making an effort that many can’t even imagine,” he added.
“Welcome to the club of 15 European Cups. Your family is with you. With you are your parents, Fayza and Wilfried,” Perez further stated, before going on to list the achievements and records that Mbappe has achieved in his career.
It was an emotional occasion for Mbappe, who was stunned by the reception he received, while his parents were moved by the welcome the French superstar was given by the Bernabeu faithful.
Club legends like Zinedine Zidane, Raul Gonzalez, Alvaro Arbeloa were also in attendance for the presentation.
