Confirmed Match Officials: Arsenal vs Manchester City (Premier League)
The Premier League have confirmed the list of match officials to oversee proceedings between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
It is a mammoth clash between two of the division’s heavyweights and two sides that have gone head-to-head for the Premier League crown in the two previous seasons, both of which saw Manchester City come out on top.
This season has been very different from the part of Pep Guardiola’s side, with several players including the manager himself openly admitting that their results across November and December have largely ruled themselves out of a chase for the top-flight title.
However, Manchester City remain very much insistent in their hunt for three points in every game, as the squad looks to record a top-four finish this campaign and as a result secure a UEFA Champions League spot for the 2025/26 season.
Those top-four hopes took a significant boost in their last Premier League outing as Manchester City came from behind to secure all three points against big-six rivals Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden.
Now, ahead of the meeting between Arsenal and Manchester City this weekend, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Emirates Stadium!
Match Referee
The Premier League have confirmed that Merseyside-based official, Peter Bankes has been appointed into the role of lead match referee on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal against Manchester City this weekend.
This weekend will mark Bankes’ 20 outing across all competitions so far this season, and his 15th appearance in the Premier League having overseen contests in the Championship, EFL Cup, and FA Cup, too.
Peter Bankes has overseen Manchester City on seven previous occasions, with his most-recent contest involving Pep Guardiola’s side coming in mid-December as the Etihad club fell to a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
City’s record in matches involving Bankes have been mixed, having won three of their seven outings, losing three, and drawing the other contest, including defeats away to Southampton in the League Cup and Brentford in the Premier League during their Treble winning season.
Assistant Referees
Accompanying Peter Bankes on the field at the Emirates Stadium this weekend will be an assistant referee pairing of Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh, the Premier League have confirmed.
Video Assistant Referees
Overseeing matters from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be the Premier League’s appointed Video Assistant Referee Paul Tierney, with support from the allocated Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Craig Taylor.
Fourth Official
As for the man charged with overseeing matters between the two dugouts headed up by Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola will be Anthony Taylor in the role of fourth official.
