‘We’re coming’: Texas Rangers All Stars say the team is poised for a second half run

The reigning World Series Champion Texas Rangers entered the All Star break third in the American League West and a losing record.

However, after taking two of three from the rival Houston Astros, and winning seven of their last 10 game, Rangers All-Star second baseman Marcus Semien said the team is building momentum at the right time.

“We’re coming,” Semien said speaking at a press event Monday ahead of Tuesdays all-star game.

He acknowledged the team’s slow start saying offensive production hasn’t been at the same level as the 2023 season, but argued the team is still in the hunt.

The clubhouse is confident, resilient and knows how to play, said shortstop Corey Seager.

The team is also looking forward to getting players like third baseman Josh Jung back, who’s been out since April with a fractured wrist.

Jung took 15 swings off a tee Sunday, and should be close to a rehab start after the All Star break, Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com.

“Anytime you get key pieces back, JJ hopefully will come back soon, it gives confidence,” Seager said, adding he hoped the team could build on the momentum of the series win over the Astros as the second half starts.

The series against Houston felt like a must win after Friday’s 6-3 loss, said Rangers’ closer Kirby Yates.

To come back and win the next two games was really important, Yates said, adding it gave the team confidence going into the second half.

“It’s a marathon,” he said. “We all know we haven’t played our best baseball, but we’re trending in the right direction.”
