Colts Sign 2023 Sixth-Round Pick
The Barrie Colts have announced the signing of their 2023 sixth-round OHL Priority Selection Peter Legostaev.
"Peter has continued to develop and has improved every time we watch him play," said Colts Head Coach and GM Marty Williamson. "He's a player who has a strong knack for finding the puck and is always putting himself in a strong position."
The Colts drafted Legostaev after he scored 25 goals and added 24 assists in 34 games playing for the Smiths Falls Bears U18 AAA program in the HEO U18 AAA league.

Last year, he accumulated 56 points in 40 games while playing for the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears in the EOJHL. He also played 13 games for the Brockville Braves in the CCHL and scored five goals.
This year, the Ottawa native moved up to play for Brockville in the CCHL. As a rookie, he has scored nine goals and added 12 assists for a total of 21 points in 28 games. He currently sits fourth in rookie scoring.
Based on his history, Legostaev clearly has a scoring touch. He has never failed to produce no matter the level. For the last two years, he has moved a step up the junior ladder continuing a steady trend of self-improvement.
At 6-foot-2, Legostaev is a good size though he does not tend to play a very heavy game preferring to rely on his skills and hockey IQ to produce offensively.

By signing Legostaev Barrie adds more depth to what is already one of the deepest programs in the OHL. Notably, they will be without fellow Ottawa native Cole Beaudoin for the next few weeks due to his inclusion in Canada's 2025 World Junior Championship roster. It remains to be seen whether this will allow Legostaev to play his first OHL game.
Until then, Legostaev will continue to develop with the help of the Colts.
"He's taken a big step in his development this season in Brockville, and we're looking forward to helping him continue that," said Williamson.
