Colts To Retire Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion's Number 13

The Barrie Colts announced earlier today that they will retire two-time Stanley Cup Champion Kyle Clifford's number.

"Kyle Clifford defines what it means to be an underdog," said Barrie Colts Owner and President Howie Campbell. "We're honored to officially hang Kyle's number 13 up to the rafters here at Sadlon Arena while having Kyle and his family here to celebrate."

Before he became a professional, the Barrie Colts drafted the Kitchener, Ont. native in the second round of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection.

Clifford played in 184 games for Barrie over the course of three seasons. During that time, he scored 45 goals and added 55 assists for a total of 100 points.

Not only did the 6-foot-2 forward score at more than a half-a-point per game pace he also played the bruising style of hockey he became known for at the NHL level.

Early in his third and final season with the Colts, Clifford signed an NHL contract with the L.A. Kings.

Clifford spent the majority of his 13-year NHL career playing for the Kings before brief periods spent with the St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 753 NHL games, he recorded 104 points and 905 penalty minutes.

As a member of the L.A. Kings, Clifford won the Stanley Cup twice. He first lifted hockey's greatest trophy at the end of the 2011-12 season, in just his second year with the team, before repeating the feat two years later at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Clifford has spent the last three years playing in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies. He is an alternate captain for the team this year and has three goals and one assist in 12 games.

The jersey retirement ceremony will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27 when the Colts host the Saginaw Spirit. The team indicated more information about the event will be released closer to that date.
