Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars: Odds, predictions, how to watch Game 5

Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger (29) deflects a shot in the third period against the Colorado Avalanche in game four of the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Ball Arena.
Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger (29) deflects a shot in the third period against the Colorado Avalanche in game four of the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Ball Arena.

Game 4 was arguably the Colorado Avalanche's worst outing of these Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Dallas Stars appear to have all the momentum heading into Game 5, and they have the opportunity to advance to the Western Conference Finals in front of their home crowd.

Ever since the Stars surrendered four straight goals to lose Game 1, they've seemed unstoppable in this series. Sure, part of their massive Game 4 performance has to do with the Avalanche not playing their best after learning of Valeri Nichushkin's six-month suspension, but that doesn't take away from Dallas' high-level play thus far. Although the Stars should have the advantage playing Game 5 at home, they've been better on the road in this series, meaning the Avalanche could seize back the series momentum with a win tonight. Dallas will obviously do everything in their power to prevent that from happening.

Predictions for Avalanche vs. Stars, Game 5:

ClutchPoints: Stars to win

Bryan Logan writes, "While it is a 3-1 series, the Stars have dominated it overall. They blew a huge lead in game one of the series, and if they had not done that, the series would already be over. There are two major issues for the Avalanche. First, they are struggling to score and beat Jake Oettinger. Second, Alexander Georgiev has let in too many goals. He was an issue all year long, but the offense made up for it. That is not happening now. Take the Stars to end the series."

Sportsbook Review: Miro Heiskanen Over 2.5 shots

Gary Pearson writes, "If you didn't already know, Heiskanen is a stud who will almost assuredly be a part of the Norris Trophy conversation in years to come. The 24-year-old is an elite puck-moving defenseman who knows precisely when to jump into the play. He's also the Stars' most dangerous pivot on the power play. Heiskanen has at least three shots in eight of 11 playoff contests, including three of four against the Avalanche."
