College golf facilities: Youngstown State Penguins and Watson and Tressel Training Site
The Youngstown State men’s and women’s golf programs utilize multiple areas within the department’s indoor practice facility, the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS), during the winter months while in preparation for spring competition. The WATTS is an on-campus facility that offers Youngstown State athletics one of the best indoor complexes in the Horizon League.
The WATTS provides golfers the chance to hit live shots from the main turf area into netting surrounding the field. Dressing rooms for the men's and women's golf teams are located on the mezzanine next to a state-of-the-art putting surface. The mezzanine of the WATTS now also features two golf simulators, which became available to YSU golfers in late 2024.
“Our indoor facility has been incredible and now that we've added two simulators, it's even better,” said YSU head women’s golf coach Nate Miklos. “One of the unique features of our facility is that we can hit and see ball flight for 40 yards when we are on the field. Seeing the ball fly is something that has made a huge difference in helping our players prepare in the spring.”
“Being in Northeast Ohio during the winter months, an indoor practice facility is a must,” said YSU head men’s golf coach Tony Joy. “We have been fortunate to have the WATTS, and now with the addition of the simulators, there is so much to help our players improve and be better prepared to perform well as we move into our spring schedule. I’ve also noticed the positive enthusiasm amongst our team to utilize the new simulators as they get ready to resume competition.”
