CM: Theo Hernandez renewal starts from a common will and €8m request – the details

Theo Hernandez buried a lovely pass from Rafael Leao to put AC Milan 2-0 up against Lecce and it was a reminder of how devastating the left wing can be, but patience will be required for his renewal as per a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, there is no doubt that – beyond his role as vice-captain of the team – Theo is the symbol of this new era of Milan. He is a leader not just because he sometimes wears the armband but mainly because of his experience and his quality.

Paulo Fonseca has never stopped believing in the importance of the left-back, who with his goal against Lecce drew level with his idol Paolo Maldini on 29 Serie A goals. Maldini the first person to truly believe in his talent and paid what was needed to bring him to Milan from Real Madrid.

Now, the issue of his renewal will have to be tackled, with some encouraging words after the Lecce game: “I’m happy here. Six years at Milan, will I stay for a long time like Maldini? I’m very happy here, the fans love me and the team loves me. It’s the most important thing.”

It is happiness also shared by the Rossoneri board, who want to reach an agreement regarding the renewal. Theo is happy at Milan, he feels like a leader and a mentor to the younger players, as well as an elite player in his role.

The contract that binds Theo Hernandez to Milan will expire in June 2026 and, as things stand, negotiations over an extension are needed. The Rossoneri do not intend to pay the €8m net per season demands, but the words of the full-back suggest that there is a desire to reach an agreement.

Milan are in a strong position from an economic point of view but they want to maintain the salary range around a figure already set by Rafael Leao’s renewal (€5m net per season plus €2m in potential bonuses). There will be weeks of meetings, but Milan and Theo want to continue together.
