Manchester City are reportedly subject to contact from one of the club’s legendary figures in a transfer pursuit for highly-rated Brazilian winger, Kayky.

The 21-year-old has reached somewhat of a crossroads in his top-level professional playing career, having seen his most recent loan experience cut short through a horror anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Having endured a lengthy recovery process, alongside support and assistance from Manchester City medical professionals, Kayky is now in a position to make decisions on his next steps with the end in sight in terms of his rehabilitation.

City have excluded the forward from their pre-season tour in the United States, thus allowing for the player and his representatives to field interest from across Europe, and most-recently reported, from South America.

According to the information of Rômulo Giacomin reporting for PL Brasil, Athletico-PR are trying to sign Kayky on loan from Manchester City, making initial contact and using Etihad Stadium legend Fernandinho as an intermediary for a deal.

However, the report states that a return to Brazilian football for Kayky is unlikely, with Manchester City’s priority being a loan in Europe amid interest – as reported elsewhere – from both Sparta Rotterdam and Shakhtar Donetsk.

While a loan deal is most likely, the Premier League champions do not appear to be entirely closed off to the idea of a permanent sale, with the report claiming that City are asking for €10 million to sell the 21-year-old permanently.

Should the unlikely come to fruition and City show an openness to sending Kayky back to Brazil, Rômulo Giacomin points out that City Football Group side Bahia is a priority.

It remains to be seen whether more European clubs will enter the race for Kayky within European football, or whether Manchester City will deem the options of Rotterdam or Donetsk as suitable options for the winger.

There remains some element of hope that Kayky could establish a career at Manchester City, should he breakthrough into the European limelight with a strong single-season on loan at a club in the very near future.

Whether that comes true or not, City will be hopeful that the player can generate the Etihad Stadium a healthy profit despite their investment of up to €15 million in the player when signed in the summer market of 2021.
