A Missouri lottery player had no idea he had won a big jackpot prize when he asked a store clerk to scan his ticket.

She scanned the ticket — and her surprised reaction shocked the lottery player, according to a May 26 news release from the Missouri Lottery.

“She said, ‘Have you signed that ticket?’ and I told her no,” the man told lottery officials. “And so she goes, ‘Well, you’re signing it right now!’”

He knew he must have won a lot based on the clerk’s reaction, officials said.

“She showed me the screen, and it says right on it that I won a $101,000!” he recalled when claiming his prize.

The man had won the Show Me Cash jackpot during the May 5 drawing, according to the release.

And his wife could not believe it.

“She asked me if I was joking,” the husband said.

He bought his Quick Pick ticket at Ayerco in Bowling Green. The winning numbers were 10, 12, 31, 33 and 38.

Bowling Green is about 85 miles northwest of downtown St. Louis.
