Convincing victory against Sheffield Wednesday

In the last friendly match of our pre-season, our boys took a big 4-0 win at the Red Bull Arena against Sheffield Wednesday and gained confidence for the forthcoming start of the competitive season. Scoring for our Red Bulls were Amar Dedic, Maurits Kjaergaard, Karim Konate and Adam Daghim.

MATCH SUMMARY

In our first appearance in our new away kit of elegant dark blue, Pep Lijnders' side made a bright start against the team from the English second tier. Dorgeles Nene (7') had a chance before Maurits Kjaergaard (9') smashed a post. Shortly after Karim Konate (9') sent in a dangerous shot, Amar Dedic put us into the lead (11'). The full-back raced around the Sheffield Wednesday defence and slotted perfectly inside the far post with his left boot.

A little while later, Dorgeles Nene side-footed the ball just wide from around 18 metres out. At the other end of the field, Jonas Krumrey saved superbly with his feet against Cadamarteri. Wednesday goalkeeper Beadle had no such luck at the other and - he could only parry away a Konate blast and had no hope as Kjaergaard turned it in. Shortly after the restart, our boys had more opportunities to extend the lead via Karim Konate and, twice, Adam Daghim.

We didn't waste any time after the change of ends before threatening again, with a side-footed Konate effort deflected over the bar. Dedic, Kjaergaard & Co kept on creating good pressing situations against the English championship club, winning the ball and getting several chances. Goals from Konate (58') and Daghim (69') resulted. Moussa Yeo (x2), Roko Simic (x2) and the fit again Mads Bidstrup had further big chances, but the scoreline remained a convincing 4-0 in our favour.

VIEWS AFTER THE MATCH

It was a very interesting match for us today, as we had the chance for some players to feature for longer for the first time. A lot of them played for around 70 minutes, and we wanted to see how they got on with that. They did well. I think we really dominated today, as we played our own game on the pitch. We pressed high in the opposition half, had a lot of possession and caused problems for Wednesday. We are on a good path and finding the style of football we want to play against all opponents.

Winning 4-0 in the final friendly match before the season starts is very positive, of course. You saw how intensively we played and how much we enjoyed playing football. We are going into the season feeling good. It has been tough under our new coach, but we expected that, and that is how a pre-season should be.
