The public service concluded crossing burrows would be safer if cars weren't allowed to park within 15 metres of those intersections controlled only bus stop signs the parking cut would give drivers a clear a few of oncoming traffic after review is now recommending the city cut 33 parking spots along the street. The public service says 110 right angle collisions happened on that stretch of burrows between 2016 2020, about two-thirds of which resulted in injury. Councillors will discuss the proposal next week. The number of manitobans struggling to put food on their plates is rising in food banks. Canada warns we've reached a critical turning point. The group gave our province a poor grade on poverty. And it comes as no surprise to organizations dealing with its effects. Ctv's jon hendricks reports. >> A shipment has arrived at the common covered food bank in downtown winnipeg. There are boxes and boxes of food. But they won't stay here for long. At the end of the day, there's nothing left. For example, yesterday I got dried chickpeas for protein people nobody's going to take this. >> There was nothing left at 6.30 last night. >> The demand batches, that's enough food banks across the province harvest manitoba says it's seen 150% increase in food bank use in manitoba since 2020, when times are tough, it's people who have the least that hurt the most. And according to a new poverty report card by food banks, canada, a lot of manitobans are hurting these days. Our province drug from a c minus last year to ad minus in 2024. The report's authors say high numbers of manitobans are spending more than 30% of their income on housing and the rate of food insecurity is rising. This is parents who are skipping meals so that their kids can go to school with food in their stomachs. This is seniors who never thought that they would be the type of person to turn to their community for help having to make that difficult phone call to the food bank. However, food banks canada says all hope is not lost. >> It suggests provinces may poverty reduction a priority invested housing and look at disability in social assistance rates. >> Something harvest manitoba also believes would go a long way towards fixing the problem. There's a whole range of policy options out there. >> That are going to improve people's lives, including getting more income into their pockets. >> Jon hendricks, ctv news, winnipeg. Housing addictions and homelessness minister bernadette smith tells ctv news or government is committed to raising people out of poverty. She points to an extra 8 million dollars a year. It's added to rent assistance. Smith says there are focused for now on making sure people have affordable housing wraparound supports getting them the programs they need to get themselves out of poverty. The demonstration in israel this morning is reminding people of the uncertain fate of hostages being held by hamas protesters in tel aviv held up photos of some of the hostages to their own faces. Nearly 130 people are still being held by hamas and demonstrators are calling on israel to take a ceasefire deal to bring the hostages home. This comes after new video was released, showing 5 israeli soldiers being captured by hamas. The footage was released by the soldiers. Families to put more pressure on israel's government to secure their release. Prime minister trudeau says canada will not follow norway, ireland and spain's lead to recognize a palestinian state next week. We are prepared to recognize the state of palestine have the right time, not necessarily as a to do is facing calls from the ndp and within this caucus to make the recognition. >> But the prime minister says canada's position is that a palestinian state must come from negotiations with israel before it is recognized at least 9 people, including a child, have died after a stage collapse at a presidential election rally in mexico. Now this rainfall warning has nothing to do with the rain. They're going to be seeing today. It's a system coming up from south of the international line. And that is going to be bringing plenty of rain in the days ahead. Well, beginning tonight, the days ahead will be tomorrow and saturday today, we'll see these clouds clearing out 6 degrees into the 8 o'clock hour. 13 by the time my kids are coming home from school again, bit of a breeze picking up later on today at times, it could be gusting to about 40 50 kilometres per hour. So sunshine today, but rain beginning overnight, taking us into friday with heavy rain at times. 30 to 40 millimetres expected but still, that's going continue on into saturday. That's where there's a 50 to 60 millimetres total beginning tonight. And then we will be getting back to the sunshine and even some warmer, more seasonal temperatures looking ahead into the start of next week. And I love is like dogs in the dandelions.
