The plan to transform the former bay building downtown is getting more federal noise, putting another 31 million dollars into the 200 million dollar venture by the southern chiefs organization. This after cost estimates went up last year. Ctv's jeff keele reports. >> Ottawa is putting more money into the downtown bay building project because we believe in this project, we believe in the importance of this project in downtown winnipeg. Cost estimates went up late last year from 130 million dollars to 200 million. Now the federal government is giving the southern chiefs organization another 31 million dollars for the revitalization of the former department store. 25 million for repairs and upgrades, which include a public space on the main floor as well as 6 million dollars for prep work. And the development of a first nation's workforce app to hire 400 people that it's a tough project. This this is a this is a heavy heavy project. The federal money is on top of 65 million dollars previously announced by prime minister justin trudeau. The southern chiefs organization who owns the building says the extra funding is needed to help make it more energy efficient. Plus plans have changed. There will be another floor dedicated to housing, increasing the number of units from around 200 to 350, which include affordable and assisted living suites. It's much needed. We know that the cost is going higher and higher. >> You know, and and our elders, lot of our elders, they need that extra support. So all the hard work that kendra to put into actually starting the walk itself is then continued each year. >> As new committee members join and as old ones stay to lead the way and having that teen perspective really gives a good direction as to where the committee should since 2009 kendra's walk has raised more than 1 million dollars for the cancer care. So first off to the west, we are seeing a snowfall warning now with this morning, it stretches all the way from dauphin it to kill arnie. This is about left over from what we saw earlier today. We are expected to see the snow definitely slow down tonight and tomorrow, although we could still be seeing anywhere from 10 to 15 centimetres fall between today and tomorrow. And we also have a rainfall warning U.S. coach to the side here. So you can see it's right along south central manitoba from fairford to winkler and swan lake to lac du bonnet. Again, we're only going to be getting about 10 to 15 more millimetres overnight and tomorrow morning. But that rainfall warning is still there because this system well is still here as you can see is tomorrow morning, it will be covering really half of manitoba. We will be having a about another approximately 10 millimetres of rain falling throughout the evening tonight and tomorrow as well. All throughout the day, things to the west will clear up, at least for a little while on saturday and sunday. And while that happens, keep an eye on the southwest. You could be getting some more rain making its way through later on on sunday, potentially even being heavy at times as it pushes through central manitoba right now. It's currently 4 degrees in portage, 9 in winnipeg, 5 in the pond, 6 in lynn lake. Taking a look tonight at what things are like in churchill. We are seeing actually some clouds with a low of -2 degrees. Now it will be a little bit cooler for folks in this area with those clouds sticking around tomorrow as well. Taking a look to the west, we are seeing that some potential for some rain in flin flon and the pas.
