I'll show you the way. >> Good morning. Manitoba is monday. May the 27th. You're watching ctv morning live. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. Ainsley mcphail is going to have pretty much of a fun morning throughout the morning. She is with the manitoba coptic egyptian festival. They're celebrating on june, the 1st image in the second. So we'll talk a little bit more about the community itself and its also fundraiser for a harvest manitoba. So we'll find a little bit more on how you can support the cause and really have some fun while travelling the world right here in manitoba. But first, your headlines. Pedestrian struck on pembina highway, winnipeg police conduct an investigation. National pharmacare plan advances liberal speed up legislation despite medication coverage worries. Ms walk draws hundreds in manitoba kildonan park hosts the annual fundraising event. All right, bringing catherine ono's in for terry apostle this morning. Quite a mixed bag. This we get lots of rain on saturday, but we got some sunshine yesterday was beautiful. Yeah, there's a slight chance of us actually getting us some rainfall and thunderstorm yesterday. But luckily that passes by. We enjoy the sunshine much the same today, much of the province has a risk of rain and thunderstorms. Currently, though, it's overcast out there. Winds are out of the north or the east, rather, it's 9 degrees. >> The temperature, the how my going to the barometric pressure is rising. The humidity sits at 86%. It's a great start to the week. I'm doing well. So yes, I mentioned that risk of rain and thunderstorms. You can see it here on the radar starting to push through our neck of the woods, bringing that chance that through much of the morning, maybe early afternoon. But for the most apologies that should not be there is going to be a mix of sun and cloud. Different story to the north you to have a rainfall. In fact, mostly rainfall risk for predominantly to the northeast there. As you can see, that system kind of hovering around that area of manitoba for the morning as the morning progresses, it starts to push a little further on into the south. There is a slight chance of it coming up further to the northwest, but likely it will be a rainy afternoon in the northeast. Areas like thompson and gillam island lake, make sure you have those umbrellas handy while us here. We start to clear out into the afternoon and into the evening ahead, partly cloudy skies into tomorrow. We start off fairly clear to the north will will deal with a little bit in the way of cloud coverage that will break up into the afternoon, giving them a mix of sun and cloud through much of the region with clear skies up north. In terms of our temperatures. Let's talk about how welfare today. We're looking at a high of 15 degrees still below what we're used to this time of year about 21 is a normal high. We're not getting anywhere near that 7 overnight. And then tomorrow we start to see it pick up 17 degrees and look for above the 20's by wednesday with lots of sunshine on the way. Thank you, catherine. Winnipeg police are investigating after a person was hit by vehicle in broad daylight. >> The incident happened saturday afternoon in the city's 4 kerry neighbourhood on pembina highway near mcgilvery. Police say the pedestrian was taken to hospital in unstable condition while the driver remained on scene to speak to investigators. A stretch of pembina highway was closed to traffic for several hours with just a few weeks left before the summer break. The liberal government is fast tracking high-priority legislation, including the national pharmacare plan as ctv's annie bergeron-oliver reports, there's still concern that the list of medications to be covered is too limited. Talks are intensifying on parliament, where the liberals are trying to quickly pass new pharmacare legislation. >> That could make many diabetes drugs and contraceptives free by year's end right now, only a fraction of canadian women are eligible for prescription birth control. >> At low or no cost through a public drug plan. The liberals launch the first phase of their pharmacare plan in february, offering of 1.5 billion dollars. So far, no deals have been made with the provinces and territories and quebec and alberta want to opt out. >> We're hoping it's not a photo op. We're hoping that it doesn't become just a hollow promise. But that's why said we were concerned about pharmacare coming out want this. It delay getting the rare disease struck straight out to isn't can fall to the same kinds of issues that are truck strategy has. While many health care advocacy groups are on site saying a universal pharmacare plan will improve the health of canadians. Some who testified at committee this week. So the list of medications set to be covered is too limited. >> For many on and under the insured individuals living with diabetes in canada, most of the commonly prescribe medications would not be covered by the proposed plant. Another concern brought up to mp's that the universal single payer model could disrupt existing private drug coverage. We fear that this could crowd out private player back tears. >> Which currently cover the majority of canadians, including one in 3 seniors. The government's pharmacare

legislation has the ndp support. So it will pass the question now is when. >> Annie bergeron-oliver ctv news, ottawa. Pro-palestinian protesters at the university of toronto are being told to clear opi 8 o'clock this morning. >> Or risk potential fines and arrests. There's tell us that it's highly unlikely that the action will go through and they're a strong case to move forward. But you know, we'll have to see the protesters give the university their counter offer yesterday, but the 2 sides were unable to reach an agreement. The school says it will take all necessary legal steps, including seeking an order from the ontario superior court of justice to dismantle the count. But protesters say they're not going anywhere and will instead hold a rally at that time. As the deadline nears, protesters say they're getting their legal defence ready against a possible injunction. >> Everybody has a right to express themselves, but we have to also understand that there are some pillars and there is some history in the neighbourhood. We want to make sure that that history is respected. >> The university of ottawa statue of joseph henry has been vandalized. The statue was covered in paint with the word colonizer written on the ground temper. It was a french born catholic priest known as one of the builders of the university of ottawa. His statue sits across from a pro-palestinian encampment at the school. The university has yet to comment in the U.S. wild storm sweeping across multiple states have killed at least 18 people, including children. >> We've barely bay did the many. We got inside. We saw everybody in the whole room just it's floating just that fast. >> Tornadoes flattened homes and levelled entire neighbourhoods in texas in arkansas, towns were left in ruins in oklahoma. Devastating winds tore down power lines, ripped trees from the ground and obliterated buildings. The severe weather also delayed the start of the indianapolis 500 with fans forced to evacuate this t stadium to to lightning as the weather improves and canadians venture out into the wilderness, the summer. There's a new warning from researchers about an increase in cases of lyme disease in this country. They say cases of the disease in canada have increased by more than 1000% in the last decade. And it's not just ticks that canadians have to be on the lookout for populations of an exotic mosquito species that could also potentially carry the illness have become established in parts of ontario. It's estimated that more than 90,000 canadians currently live with multiple sclerosis. And here in manitoba, community members came together to show their support for those who have been diagnosed with the unpredictable disease. The ms walk saw around 600 people lace up their walking shoes sunday, hitting the path in kildonan park. The annual 4 kilometre track raises funds to support those living with ms as well as research efforts, including those happening at the university of manitoba. >> I'm a person living with ms. I was diagnosed in 2011. And so I come to the walk every year because it gives me hope for the future. Inspires me because there's so many people here that I know they're willing to support me and take time out of their day to come. An advocate fundraise for this event. And I know that I'm not alone in my ms. Your name. Ms canada says it has already raise $175,000 and hopes to reach its fundraising goal of $225,000 over the next few weeks. >> And taking a look at the current traffic situation. A law at port portage at polo park. >> Looks pretty smooth. Looks like a nice start to your monday morning. If you have any traffic tips to let us know. Good aurex page @ctvmorningwpg. All right, we're going go to ainsley macphail now, who is live this morning at chevrier boulevard. And there's an event coming up june first and second. It's all about celebrating egyptian culture. Good morning, ainsley. >> Good morning, yes, it's the coptic egyptian takes place every single here in june. 2 emirate. The holy family's landing in egypt. Now in the last 9 years, they of welcome, not just egyptians, but more than 5,000 people. And this space in general. I want people to know as well as a food bank and that's what we're going to be chatting about at 6.37 in support of harvest manitoba. Now as we know, since 2019 food bank support and individuals needing those supports have doubled. And so we're going to be learning a little bit about how the community here is serving the broader community as well. But to some of the fun parts of this festival. There is a photo booth and I'm not sure if you saw us here back in 2022. But I myself was green screen and I'm not going to show it to you until the 7 o'clock hour have image in my hand, rachel. So I'm going to our audience later on in the show. You're teasing act. Okay. Thank you, ainsley.

>> We all those girls are good at hiding things in their cheeks. But here's a cheeky dog who's pretty good as well. >> This point, just a few of these small objects stuffed in his mouth, not to mention a couple unders pause. And just when you think that's all he offers up if you are home again, this let's counter to those like 12. >> I like those cheesy pop search, easy, you get in that massive I I think you private a lot more there than than that. But yeah, what a little sneak have you know, I caught red-handed with some snacks. You know, I want to know about exactly feeling out there. You know, it is a lot better than it was on friday, as you probably are guys out here. The umbrella is chillier than what we're seeing the sunshine is speaking out slightly, but for the most part, it's overcast out here in downtown winnipeg, 9 degrees, very light, northerly winds, pressure is rising and the humidity at 88%. So a decent day on tap. We do have a slight risk of some rain and thunderstorm activity in much of southern manitoba about a 30% shot for the most part, we're likely going to be dealing with a mix of sun and cloud and some fairly strong northwesterly winds at 20 gusting at times to 40 kilometres per hour crash. Our temperatures are still below seasonal, relieving at highs into the mid teens. Different story to the north particular and zoning in on the northeast there a good chance of some rainfall likely know thunderstorm risk. So you'll deal with the showers off and on throughout the day to the west, you could get some showers as well, but it's a slimmer chance about 30%. Overnight, though, we'll deal with partly cloudy skies and into tomorrow. We're dealing with a a decent chance of a mix of sun and cloud. There you go out with another warmer high of 17 degrees that we're finally getting above that 20 degree mark by mid workweek. >> All right.
