The now $41 million plan to twin the arena will go ahead. Talha hashmani has more on the city's push to get the project shovel ready this summer. >> The brockville braves might have a new rink to play on soon. >> This is great for the city of brockville. First and foremost, and it's also awesome for both the braves and the younger hockey players in brockville, having a facility, you know, a state of the art facility coming in that's available year round is a game changer, for sure. >> But building a second arena to pair with the existing hockey rink at brockville memorial civic center won't come cheap. The cost of the city's proposed expansion and redevelopment project is now estimated at around $41.3 million. That's 8 million more than the last estimate. The planned improvements to the memorial center would provide space for things like pickleball and an exercise track. >> About 20 million or so of the of the total picture is to build a second pad of ice on our existing brockville memorial center. There's about $5 million worth of upgrades in the existing brockville memorial center, and several million dollars being spent in the exterior property to realign some of our sports fields. >> The city says it hopes to be ready to start building by mid-july. The only thing remaining before the project can be greenlit is knowing exactly where all the money will come from. >> This project isn't going to happen without support of the upper levels of government. >> The city says it might end up fronting a third of the cost and a fundraiser to raise the money needed is also in the works. >> So we do have an advisory committee who does a lot of public outreach with the user groups, with the public, and they've really been feeding the city the scope of this. So a lot of what we're building is specifically what's been asked for through public engagement. So 41 million is a lot of money. It is important to know that that is a compendium of all the costs. >> The current rink at the civic center is open during the winter months, and is open to other events throughout the year, including ball hockey and line dancing.
