head over to lifestyleproducts.ca all: Let's see your voice! The death toll from a massive landslide in papua new guinea has jumped to more than 670 on sunday, according to the un's international organization for migration. The revised estimates are at least six times higher, and the initial death toll put out on friday. And it comes as hope of finding any survivors fades. Only five bodies have been recovered so far by emergency relief crews. We're working to move survivors away from the unstable ground that has so far buried more than 150 homes, an estimated 1250 people are now homeless, with many grieving the loss of relatives now presumed dead. The united states and australia are among those countries that have so far pledged aid to help rescue and recovery efforts. A russian missile strike on central kharkiv, ukraine, has injured at least 16 people. The missile hit a residential area of the city saturday, witnesses say emergency workers were on scene shortly after ushering away residents of nearby apartment buildings. The missile reportedly left a crater several meters deep in the pavement. Two other russian guided bombs also hit a hardware store in the city on saturday, killing at least two and injuring many more. 12 people were injured on a qatar airways flight from doha to dublin sunday, when the plane hit severe turbulence over turkey. Officials in dublin airport reported. The flight was met by emergency responders after landing. The 12 people on board included six passengers and six crew members. Officials added that the plane, a boeing 787 dreamliner, landed thankfully as scheduled. Irish broadcaster rte, citing passengers arriving at the airport, saying the incident lasted less than 20s and occurred during food and drink service. The airline did not directly comment on the turbulence, but says the matter is subject to an internal investigation. British prime minister rishi sunak says if reelected, his party is prepared to introduce a mandatory national service for 18 year olds. >> Uncertain times call for a clear plan and bold action to chart a course to a secure future. Our plan will ensure new generations and our country meet the challenges of the uncertain world. >> In a campaign video posted on platform x, sunak said the mandatory service could be military or community based. Young adults would be able to choose between spending one weekend a month volunteering or take up one of 30,000 spaces for a year in the armed forces. This announcement comes following labor party leader keir starmer's comments saying he was in favor of allowing 16 year olds to vote. Sunaks conservatives remain behind in the polls by a wide margin, with little change since his surprise election call on wednesday as the scatter when farmer got a surprise last month when he found a piece of space junk in his field, now he's waiting for it to be collected. But it is raising questions about just who's responsible when that junk falls to the earth. Sean previl has more space junk. >> When you call something space junk, everybody thinks you're a little nuts. But >> But space junk or debris is exactly what saskatchewan farmer barry sawchuck found on his land last month. He found the debris while checking his fields northwest of regina. >> You know, a quarter mile away or something. We were driving up and just looked like garbage, and we get closer and closer and what is it? It's not garbage. >> Photos of the debris led to an astronomy professor working with a colleague to determine the junk was likely linked to a spacex dragon spacecraft that returned to earth in february. >> This is this is not uncommon. And as we launch more and more stuff, these reentries, hitting stuff on the ground is going to become more and more common. >> "global news" reached out to spacex about the debris, but did not hear back by deadline. However, sawchuck says the company has since been in touch. >> He said there's some compensation. We don't know. We haven't said a number yet or nothing like that. >> So space debris has fallen to earth before, including farmland in australia in 2022 and through a home in florida this past march, prompting experts to urge action. >> What if this had landed in regina or toronto? Right? Like this is this would have killed people for sure. >> So who is liable? According to the outer space treaty, the country where the object comes from is responsible. >> The united states is liable, for damage caused by american satellites, even if they're private companies that treaty was originally established in the 1960s, but cheney points to

other initiatives already being developed, but added pressure will still be needed to make things better before they get worse. If this happened, crashed into the streets of a major city, the story could be very different in the meantime, sawchuck says whatever money he does get will go towards a skating rink for his town, and while the debris is out of this world, he's going to continue his day to day farming grounded on earth. >> Sean previl "global news" the death toll is rising after a series of powerful storms ripped across the southern us. >> Suspected tornadoes struck communities in texas, oklahoma and arkansas, with forecasters warning there could be more destructive weather. Still to come. Heather yourex-west has the latest across three states, a series of powerful weekend storms have cut a path of destruction and death. >> It's like a punch to the stomach, really. I mean, this is my community. This is the I mean, I know people that that work here and I see them every day. >> Radar capturing the supercell as it erupted over north texas on saturday night by morning, the damage stretched across two counties, seven people, including two children among the dead in that state. Officials say at least 20 others have been injured. >> We ran up under the stairs and the little bathroom and then it went boom, like like we got hit by a lightning or something, and then you could see whistling. It's as scary. I, it's a scary i, it's the worst I've ever experienced in oklahoma. >> What is believed to have been a long track tornado damaged homes and trees in two communities northeast of tulsa. Baseball sized hail was also reported. Two people were killed in the storm that rolled in quickly early sunday morning. >> I'm still trying to process it. It's shock, just everything you had worked so hard for all these years is gone. It was loud. >> I've never heard glass break in my life, and it was so scary. I'm just glad that my mom got me out. She got me out in a minute. Like after she got me out and I was sat down, my glass immediately broke in that tree hit my window. >> Parts of arkansas were hit hard too. Officials say thousands in the state are without power, and at least one person is confirmed dead. May has brought a series of severe weather systems and deadly tornadoes through the region in recent weeks, making 2024 one of the worst spring storm seasons in at least five years. With more severe weather in the forecast before the american memorial day weekend is through heather yourex-west "global news" calgary. >> Well, this is what our satellite and radar looks like when we know everyone is enjoying their sunday outdoors. For the start of your week in peterborough. Although the risk of thunderstorms won't stick around for that long. Just on monday, 21 degrees. Still, though, some strong winds into tuesday, wednesday drying up, still cloudy. And then we get into some sunny conditions and very warm conditions as we head into the weekend. Today, a lot more warmth in southern ontario into the north as well. Northern quebec, southern quebec not so much the maritimes where they've been seeing some cloud cover and a little bit of rain temperatures catching up in southern manitoba, though after a number of days of single digit temperatures, even some early morning snow for some communities, we don't want to deal with that and we won't. Calgary slowly starting to warm up. Vancouver 12 degrees under. Also some cloudy conditions and a lot of rain in the pacific coast. We've got a lot of rain headed our way, but it will be in windsor in about 30 minutes. For now, our problems begin early tomorrow morning, so about 4 A.M. in peterborough, 5 A.M. in kingston, bancroft and tweed, fenland falls and apsley. You're probably looking at heavy rain and a chance of thunderstorms when you're heading to work. That will be wave one and wave two in the lunch hour. Also with a risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds. And then we get into some on and off thunderstorm forms throughout the afternoon. About 5 P.M. in the kawartha lakes region, about 7 or 8 P.M. in the kingston region. The system will swirl back around and we'll see its tail end move in, but it's just remnants of the storm that will bring showers for much of your tuesday. A little bit into your wednesday, although for the most part we will be drying up by the early morning and slowly starting to see the clouds. Also break up. Here are the totals that we're expecting a bulk of this. Really much of this rather will be happening tomorrow. Only some communities in northern ontario and towards windsor will be seeing some more trickle, some more rain trickling in tuesday and into wednesday. Very warm overnight tonight into the high teens in saint catharines. Even tomorrow. Lots of 21 on this map. 19 or 20 degrees in kingston. Risk of thunderstorms tomorrow 60 k winds tuesday. Showers. Also some strong winds. Cooler on wednesday under those clouds. And as we head into the weekend, we'll start to warm up. The sun starts to shine and hopefully we'll forget all of this ever happened with the us justice department taking legal action to potentially break up ticketmaster and live nation, many experts say live music fans should not hold their breath expecting ticket prices to drop. >> Don't think it's going to have any effect on the fan whatsoever except to so many, so all kinds of confusion as to where to buy tickets. Right now, everybody knows to go to ticketmaster and everybody hates ticketmaster because they think that ticketmaster sets concert ticket prices, which is not true. Concert ticket prices are set by the artist and their manager in conjunction with the promoter. Ticketmaster is nothing to do with that. The only thing ticketmaster does is add a fee, which is usually somewhere around 5% of the face value of the ticket, which is how they make their money. >> Ticketmaster, owned by live nation, currently controls 70% of the ticket market in the us. The company says the doj's lawsuit will not solve the issues about ticket prices and service fees. Legal experts say it may be a year before a trial starts, then likely months of arguments followed by an appeal. If a judge orders a breakup of the companies.
