Due to the hospital damage, patients were needed to be transported for their injuries to nearby area hospitals. >> Reporter: iowa state patrol reports several fatalities and injuries. Officials say up to 12 tornadoes hit the state on tuesday. >> It's devastating. I have lived here all of my life. I'm just praying that everybody was safe. Everybody is safe and nobody got hurt. >> Reporter: the severe storms also flooding roads in nebraska where thousands were left without power. One woman said she spent her entire life savings and has gone into debt to pay $70,000 to people smugglers so that her family could be taken to egypt,

As our monika gul reports, the retail chain was the target of a group of sophisicated cyber criminals. >> Reporter: we are learning about the details of a cybersecurity incident that recently forced london drugs to close all of its stores for about a week. On tuesday, the retail and pharmacy chain revealed it was the victim of an attack orchestrated by a sophisticated group of mobile cyber criminals and they are threatening to release files from its corporate head office which may contain employee information. London drugs says it is unwilling and unable to pay a ransom. >> London drugs has made absolutely the right call here. If no companies paid, there would be no more ransomware, it really is that simple. >> Reporter: emsisoft threat analyst brett callow said they could group that targeted london drugs is known as lockbit. >> Lockbit is one of the most prolific ransomware operations. They have been active since 2019. They have successfully attacked thousands of companies. >> Reporter: and emsisoft threat analyst brett callow said the group has received more than $100 million in ransom demands since its existence. Earlier this month, the us department of state put a 10 million-dollar reward for the group's alleged leader dimitry yuryevich khoroshev, a russian national. Callow says according to a post made on lockbit's website on the dark web on tuesday, the group is looking for $25 million from london drugs within 48 hours, but the post was taken down on wednesday. >> Possible explanations would be that london drugs paid, or that they have agreed to come back to the negotiating table, but there are other possibilities too. >> Reporter: city news reach -- >> Reporter: city news reached out to london drugs on wednesday asking if it had paid or was negotiating, but the company said that there was no update to share. London drug says it is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services for all of its employees. The company has previously said it does not believe any customer or patient information has been impacted and it still thinks that's the case. >> They have said there was no evidence of it being affected but of course absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. >> Reporter: london drugs close its stores on april 28 because of the attack and started reopening them on may 4th. Callow says ransom where groups -- callow says ransomware groups the more than $1 billion in ransoms alone. In vancouver, monika gul, city news. >> Reporter: meanwhile, the first nations health authority has also become the victim of a cyber attack. The authority said in a statement they found unusual activity on its corporate network activity on may 13th. The fnha said they immediately intercepted and blocked an unauthorized entity who had gained access to their network and reported the incident to authorities. The city also uncovered evidence that some employee information had been impacted and are providing those individuals with support. Fnha said third-party cyber security experts are now investigating.
