and it's very much needed. So the more people know about the service, the more it'll be utilized, and the more people it will help. I'm Samantha, by the way. I'm from the Toronto Community Crisis Team, we provide mental health support to Scarborough. So we're a non-police led mental health support for people going through any kind of crisis. We do support with housing, bringing people to the hospital, get an assessment, whatever it is that is mental health related, you can just call us through 211 or 911. Have you ever heard about our services? A little bit, yeah. - Yeah? OK! - Yeah. We're 24 hours too, that's the great part. There is no rest. We're always there. And even if you just want to talk to somebody on the phone, you can just -- when you call 211, let them know that you prefer in person not over the phone, we also do that as well. So it's kind of good to know. You can pass it on and tell everyone that we are here. For sure, can I get an extra one to pass it out? Of course you can, I can give you a few! Thank you so much. Spread the news to everyone you see. - I will, I will. - Take care. - I am proud to say that in our first year of service, our data demonstrates theToronto Community Crisis Service is having transformative impact. As you can see in front of us, 95% of our service users are satisfied with the service they received. - It's a long time coming to get to this, and the fact that we've been able to expand it so quickly is, I think, a great achievement. I'm really excited for our community partners to be able to service all the residents in our city from every corner. - CARO, all those in favour. Opposed? Carried. Thank you for that fine work. Narrator: On October 31, 2023, Mayor Chow, and her executive committee, adopted a report to expand TCCS across the entire city. - I have fundamental belief that we are stronger together. And people that have a lot of power get to say a lot of things, and they get heard. People that have the least amount of power, usually have the least amount of voice. So it's important in the elected office to have people that don't have a lot of voice, their wishes and desires be reflected in what we do. Thousands of Torontonians have benefited. They are getting the service they need by calling 211 instead of 911. That's worthy of celebration. And we are expanding that program right across the city. Narrator: The expansion of TCCS is a success, but remains little comfort for those who've had to deal with loss. - I would like people to know about the 211 number. I believe the 211 number can save lives in the future, yes I do. But so far, we have gotten no closure. Far too many lives were lost before an adequate response to mental health was developed by the City of Toronto. Though the city can take credit for eventually listening to its community, this moment of self-examination was only made possible because of the 40+ years of consistent activism, research, and calls for accountability made from selfless community members that were brave enough to answer the call. I want it to work. And the only way it's gonna work is we just keep going, and we raise the standards of care so it's normal. To get people reconnected, re-stabilized. No matter where you're from, whether you're an immigrant, whether you're Canadian, whether you're a colonizer, whether you're not, we have to work together now so people aren't lost, or fallen off, or just die, right? Because the care wasn't there. Say their names May their death Please not go in vain I feel the pain when it rains, I demand a change God, send me an angel I really need Your strength right now Say their names May their death Please not go in vain I feel the pain when it rains, I demand a change God, send me an angel I really need your Strength right now Captioned by Ai-Media ai-media.tv
