A spokesperson for québec provincial police says medical staff will try to determine if pickton can live without life support. He was assaulted in port cartier institution on sunday in what officials have described as a major assault. He is serving a life sentence for six counts of second-degree murder. At the time of his trial, pickton had been charged with the murders of 26 women many of whom were indigenous. >>> We did need to share a warning around this next story. The police chief says the arresting officer detective brian gillis has been disciplined for failing to activate his body camera. >> Detective gillis did have an encounter as we know with Mr. Scotty scheffler. Detective gillis should turned on his body worn cam are but did not. His failure to do so a violation of the lapd policy on uniforms and equipment subject category body worn cameras and he was sustained for a violation of the policy 4.31.6 procedures and 4.31.7 operation. >> Sarah: according to police without the detective's body camera footage police were unable to capture initial video footage of scheffler's interaction with the officer. Police are releasing video foot tragedy a fixed camera pole and a police dashcam. Scheffler was arrested last week for reckless driving and assaulting an officer who now faces second degree assault of a police officer charges as well as third degree criminal mischief and reckless driving charges.
