We have the latest. >> Reporter: the crown calling its final witness wednesday in the murder trial of jeremy skibicki. The winnipeg police service detective sergeant presenting nine letters that skibicki wrote to a female inmate in nova scotia. The contents were read in court. Officer said two to more letters were sent but she destroyed them. In the first letter that he needs human contact and he can't trust anyone in his life. He said that he is being kept in segregation leading up to his trial. As a letters progressed he asked her to calm him anton one of the names he used on facebook. In the letters he also said that he is sorry that her major did not work out and that is something they both have in common. He wants to stay in contact after their released and hopes they can get married one day. He says that he loves cats and dogs depends on medical mediterranean for pain and likes to work out. He also wrote he's quote kind and respectful and avoids conflict where possible but notes quote when I lose my cool I've been known to terrify people. In the letters skibicki wrote about challenges of having unbiassed in miscase and have to use the not criminally responsible defence. He never told his pen pal why he was in prison. He wrote about religion and the plot for a fictional book he was writing. In the last letters seized by police he wrote that he was at an emotional low and the content of the previous letters had up set his pen pal. He promised her not to write about religion and that he was in love with her. The letters include the crown's case. The defence will bring in its evidence on june 3rd. >> Gabrielle: yesterday marked world preeclampsia day. It usually goes away after the baby is born, but could continue after delivery. Experts really don't know what causes preecollapsia. Board member explains why marking the day is so important. >> It a life threatening disorder that does affect the mom and the unborn baby and is the leading cause of maternal and infant morbidity. So, yeah, it is really really important to understand what the signs and symptoms are to look out for so that women and their family members can really advocate for themselves. >> Gabrielle: the fertility rate among women in manitoba and canada continues to drop as experts are starting to see more trends as to why it is happening. According to statcan, the birth rate per woman in her province -- our province dropped from 1.9 to 1.4. meanwhile the canadian fertility rate fell to 1.33 in 2022. The lowest level since statcan collected data more than a century ago. This doctor the medical director at heartland fertility says he is seeing more examples of families having fewer children. >> The trends are moving towards people starting their families later. Some people want to be the one and done. Economically things are changing. Sometimes raising a family can be more expensive. Certainly in our economic times right now. >> Gabrielle: the manitoba government has partly walked back a funding cut to a provincial summer jobs program after an out cry from community groups. -- after he met with a camping association and other groups in recent days. The $4 million budget cut up set sporting groups museums nonprofit camps and others groups who said they were surprised when after years of getting funding they were either rejected or given less money this spring. There is a rainfall warning in affect for sections of southern manitoba which does include winnipeg and we're kind of seeing that in the southeastern south central corners of the province. Take a look at what we're getting set for over the next 48 hours or so. You can see here around midnight we will start looking at the rain here in southern manitoba including winnipeg. Tomorrow at 8 o'clock that rain will be very apparent. You will see yellow and orange come up on the map which indicates we can be looking at heavy rain possibly some thunderstorm activity. Also you see that purple which indicates it could be seeing snow tomorrow. We will see decent amount of precipitation. Over 50 milliliters of rain. So some of those areas in southern manitoba anywhere from 50 to 60 milliliters of rain by saturday as we look now at your ok tire traffic report with a quick look at downtown winnipeg.
