The priority system for emergency calls to the winnipeg fire paramedic service is changing. With the goal of getting the right help to the right patients. This morning we continue our exclusive look at the new system. The downtown community safety partnership or dcsp started responding to calls from wfps on may 8th sent strait to their radios easing the pressure at the winnipeg fire/paramedic service dispatch summer as operators match limited paramedic crews to surging calls. There are new system are able to identify the urgent calms. Operators ask a series of questions and look at their history, their med, hospital visits before assigning them to paramedics or sometimes high priority. >> It allows them to focus more within their scope rather than taking on call we can provide assistance to. More people helped. >> We're at a point where we have to be watching our resources and we can't send to every call. So we have to be very specific of holding them for the priority 1s which are the highest light, sirens and responses. >> The five priority system and dcsp 's role are being phased in with room to change and adapt to the public's needs. Happy update to a story we brought you about the winnipeg humane society rescuing dozens of a dogs from richmond west. They have 79 because a couple of the dogs had puppies. Five dogs are ready to be adopted. The manager of adoption services says the support from the community has been astounding but reminding perspective pet parents, they were already overcapacity before they came in and have other pups in need of forever homes as well.

significant rainfall is expected in southern manitoba today and the city of winnipeg says its teams are at the ready to respond to any weather related issues. If you're a homeowner you might want to pull out your generator in case the power goes out and a good idea to make sure your phone is charged before the storm and inspect the back water valve if you have a sump system, have downspouts pointing away from your home. If you have important items in the basement, it's best the they're in plastic bins versus in a cardboard box or off the floor. It's still too early to tell if any specific area of the city is at risk of flooding. >> As the system start to come through, there may be some more information that becomes available on where exactly it's tracking and those kinds of things. Really good to look at the weather radar and see where the storm is tracking and the intense hot spots are, if there are any. >> Gabby: doors open winnipeg is back for another year this saturday and sunday. It's a chance to explore some of the city's most unique buildings with rare access. Her's clay young with more on how you can take in the fun. >> Clay: jay, where exactly are we right now? >> At the greg building on albert street, 52 albert street, winnipeg, of course. >> Clay: right. Part of doors open winnipeg this weekend. Give us a little history into this building. >> Well, this building originally was built in 1900 and completed in 1902. The reason it's called the greg building, truly the original name named after the own george greg. He was in toronto and came to set up shop in winnipeg with that five-story warehouse and his task was a business continuation by transporting and distributing his text tiles from toronto, land in winnipeg in this very warehouse and distribute into western canada. >> Clay: all right. This is just one of the many places people can come and see this weekend. This is a huge event, isn't it? >> This is really big. This is city-wide. We're in the exchange district, a national historic site and we focus on different areas but we're all over, st. James, st. Patel. >> Clay: what sort of -- any new place -- this -- this building right now is going to be one of the new attractions. >> Yes. This is wonderful. This is a building that sat vacant and derelict it's really ticking a lot of boxes act the greenest building in an existing building. >> Clay: right. I want to bring you back in here. Tell us what the plan is here. You're turning this once derelict building into lofts and condos? >> Yes, we are. I love the engineering of the building. The foundation and the walls of this building were completely solid and that's why -- that was a great project to start with and now five-story with brand-new elevator. Taking us up to the rooftop and it's now apartment rentals. Main floor is to commercial, to be determined. >> Clay: you know, good for you. A good news story for the downtown. >> Yeah. We're excited. A labour of love. I have to say that. My family, my friends, cindy, from heritage winnipeg, everybody who's helped put this project along with myself put this project together and I can't wait to look back when it's done and just look at with a huge sense of pride for everybody that's been involved and for the community. >> Clay: all right. Lots more coming up, but thank you -- thank you both. >> Thank you. You're welcome >> Thank you. That was a great. Thank you. It could be a rain snow and mixture as we get into the afternoon and evening hours but that snow will stay more so closer to the western side of the province. For winnipeg, we'll miss out on the snow. Just looking at rain that goes into tonight but by tomorrow afternoon and sunday, starting to see some relief from that rain.
