>>> After extreme turbulence on a singapore airlines flight killed one man and injured dozens of others, passengers are beginning to share their firsthand accounts of the terrifying experience. >> >>. >> The entire thing happened within the span of like less than ten seconds. I saw people from across the aisle just like . . . Like going completely horizontal hitting the ceiling and landing back down. >> Tammie: 228 people were on board the plane when it hit severe turbulence. A 73-year-old british man died from a suspected heart attack. At least 30 others were hurt. Officials say 20 people are in intensive care in bangkok where the flight was diverted. Two canadians were among those on board, but it's unclear if they suffers any injuries. Ive vegas investigators have arrived in back cook. >>> Interpol says more than 1500 stolen canadian vehicles have been found across the globe since february. The international law enforcement agency says it is thanks to rcmp's decision to integrate its database with interpol interpol's. The data shows canada ranks among the top ten countries for stolen vehicles. It says thieves are attracted to canada's supply of suvs and cross-overs, often shipped overseas to countries in the middle east and west africa. The results come just days after the federal government unveiled a plan to combat rising auto thefts. >>> Canadians are feeling the pinch at the grocery store, a new poll exploring grocery inflation finds food prices have been cooling, however, two-thirds of respondents believe it's actually getting worse. Our caryn ceolin is asking what shoppers in toronto think this morning. Good morning, caryn. >> Caryn: good morning, tammie, well, frustrations with higher prices are so high, more canadians are turning to independent grocers like the one behind me amid an ongoing boycott of loblaw-owned stores. The leger poll found that food inflation is getting worse with 30% believing it has been primarily caused by grocery stores trying to increase profit margins. The poll also found more than half of those polled support an ongoing boycott of loblaw. But 18% of households have joined. Now torontonians I spoke to morning say they're always shocked when they see the receipt, but many of them have actually not changed their shopping habits because they still need what they need. Have a listen. >> I have to check the fliers, you have to be very knowledgeable now, it's definitely a doubled my grocery bill over the last five, six years. So it ain't easy. >> Grocery prices they're up there, yeah, yeah. I haven't changed my shopping habits, no. It's like, you can't change it, right? You need the stuff that you need, right, as well. You need too eat. >> I'm shocked but I haven't changed anything. >> I'm always watching what I'm getting. Make sure I'm using everything to the full extent. I don't want to waste anything with prices this high. >> Caryn: the major grocers maintain they do not dis proportionately profit from inflation, but tammie, it's a familiar feeling. You buy a few things at the store and perhaps shocked when you see the receipt. I know, I feel that way sometimes. >> Tammie: for sure. Especially when it comes to certain produce out there. You see the price go up and take the grapes off of the line there. Caryn ceolin live in downtown toronto this morning. Thank you so much for that.

>>> It is 9:06 here on "bt." time to take a look at the forecast and we say good morning to frank ferragine with the latest on what is going on from coast to coast to coast. Got the sweater off now, frank. You're ready to take in all the sun. >> Frank: you got it. The good news is with produce as you were mentioning, we're gettingnto growing season. A lot of local will come online, the ability for you to grow your own, so you can save money that way. >> Tammie: that is great. A lot of people planting over the past weekend, so that, you know, they can repair the benefits coming up later on this summer. >> Frank: yeah, let's see what the growing season looks like for everybody across the country today, because we're hot and summer-like here in toronto today with a daytime high of 26. But as we head towards the west, we have temperatures just breaking into the double-digits. Let's first talk a little bit about vancouver today, where vancouver is going to see a beautiful pleasant day with a temperature right around 16°. Going to see sunshine there. But as soon as you go into alberta, that's where they're barely breaking the double-digits. Calgary today at 10 with wet weather. 12 into edmonton. You can see daytime highs up in whitehorse of 12. It's warmer in yellowknife today than calgary. 16 in yellowknife. As we take a look at regina, cloud cover, winnipeg we see 17 as well with clouds. Showers into thunder bay, there's the warmth in toronto. With that the risk of isolated thunderstorms but the hot spot in the country today? Montréal today at 31°, with that humidex values into the MID-30s. Taking a look at halifax, nice day there at 24 and st. John's with showers at 14. We see the freezing mark into iqaluit. Once again for today, where we're underneath the sunshine, the trees are fully out this morning, and we're enjoying this beautiful summer-like conditions, we just hope that today and the remainder of this week shines nice and bright for you all. [ ] [ ] >> Meredith: thank you, frankie. Live all morning from such a beautiful place. Frankie outside in the sunshine. Makes sense, you know? >> Devo: natural habitat. >> Meredith: natural habitat. From that bright spot to ours today. Something that I don't know I oddly find relatable. I'm not entirely sure why. But it's about a penguin who takes a little bit of a fall in front of his penguin friends. Let's take a look at that embarrassing penguin moment. >> Tracy: embarrassing. >> Devo: here we go. [ Laughter ]. >> Meredith: oh, so much better than I thought it was going to be. Wow . . . >> Tracy: it was like a 30-minute fall. Oh, oh, oh, oh. >> Meredith: and he walked down so carefully. All the friends are in the pool. All the other penguins have their bathing suits on and they're fine with it and this penguin is trying to make it the penguin summer of 2024 and he's -- >> Tracy: one more time [ Laughter ]! [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Tammie: you know what? He got cocky at the end. He was so careful thehe whole way and then he was like, no, I'm good. No, you're not. >> Tracy: what is the human condition to laugh at falls? You hope no one gets hurt but there's something about it that is so dramatically hilarious. Especially when people are trying to course correct. >> Meredith: yeah, they are -- [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Tammie: the more limbs flailing the better. >> Devo: when you do that stumble if you're walking, do you play it off or just -- >> Tracy: I love that question. Because I laugh. >> Devo: I do too. >> Tracy: I see people in the subway, they trip and look down angry at the floor. Who tripped me! They have to do that act. Whereas I fall, as soon as I fall or trip, I'm like, hahaha. People think I'm not well. >> Devo: yeah. >> Tracy: but I find it's funny. I have to laugh at myself. What do you do? Are you cool? >> Devo: I try and be cool, but I still laugh. I was in the distillery yesterday, I grabbed this stuff from got style and I did a little . . . Oop! I was like, come on! Have a conversation with, you know, the invisible line -- >> Tracy: of course, yeah. >> Meredith: almost easier when you're amongst other people. It's funny when you're alone and you fall and you're talking to yourself. >> Devo: I do that. >> Meredith: hey, girl, what was that? What am I doing? Rather be around other people >> Tammie: I like to make eye contact with whoever is around just to say, we're all aware. It's okay. I'm fine. [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Tracy: hurt a little bit. >> Tammie: in my soul. >> Meredith: if you trip today, if you fumble a little bit, don't worry. >> Devo: we might laugh at you. >> Tracy: we might. >> Meredith: but we've been there. >> Devo: as long as you're okay. >> Tracy: if it's a close friend, laugh first and then check in. Are you okay? You sure? >> Meredith: that's the way to do it. That's the order. More "breakfast television" coming up after this.
