Welcome back to "breakfast television." you got all of us here today. You know everybody. Steph, tammie, tracy and devo. Great to have you with us throughout the show. But this is going to be a hot conversation because we got a lot of people who like a lotf music here. Music c mily here on "breakfast television." and apple has unveiled a list of the greatest albums of all time. And when I hear that kind of thing, I get scared. Because I'm like, how are they putting this together? So the company assembled a panel of industry experts to determine actually a winner, and so the winner of the best album of all time according to apple and their panel of experts lauren hill's 1998 album, the miseducation of lauren hill >> Tracy: it was a good one. >> Meredith: was it number one? They say a stunningly raw look into the landscape, not just one of the era's biggest stars but of the era itself. What are we thinking? Tracey, starting with you? >> Tracy: when it comes to the lists, I feel like we get stuck in the present tents or the very recent history. So what if there was like a big tune in 1924 or 1830? Like, we have -- [ Laughter ] [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Tracy: like, it's just something to think about when we do the lists, we are very much stuck in the human condition of now, we are myopic beings and we're very much fixated on our world now. Now, with that said . . . Let's go with lauren hill. I do believe that that is -- if it was a movie it would be a perfect screen play. As an album, it is a perfect artistic effort. I love an album that has interludes that leads from one song to another. >> Meredith: that was the whole album in its entirely, yeah, yeah. >> Tracy: it's a story. We lost that when it came to single-song downloads. We lost the idea of a body of work being a creative statement. For those reasons the statements said, the fact that they're bops, the fact that she went hard on a lot of themes that are happening in our communities, the fact that her voice is incredible and she is an amazing

artist, I understand why it's number one. But at the same timive side-eye about the fact that -- >> Meredith: you want to go from 1924, I get it. [ Laughter ]. [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Meredith: steph, number two is thriller, number three, abby, road, number four purple rain and number five frank ocean. Steph, you love your music. >> Stephanie: I do. >> Meredith: you represent the youth on this panel. >> Stephanie: my music taste goes all over the place. But I believe -- totally with tracy in that I feel when you have a body of work that spans different artistic -- you know, can be a movie, can be a tv show that -- you know, it takes me back and takes me there, I think that lauren hill totally makes sense. Obviously for me I'm thinking like jonas brothers and paramore. Paramore for me is always number one. City in colour, childish gambino. But I'm thinking of the state of the world now and music right now and artists of -- I don't know, so much art that goes into putting together an album and a piece of work and I think they all deserve the praise. >> Stephanie: you do the news. >> Meredith: but music too. >> Tammie: I do. I agree, when you said interludes, that's the first thing I thought of when I thought of miseducation. Because that album was perfect to the point where I listened to every interlude. >> Tracy: yeah. >> Tammie: I loved that classroom theme and vibe. I loved it so much. My thing with these number one -- the actual rankings. If they said a top five and didn't say this is in order. A top ten or something like that, I feel like that would be better. To say number one versus something like purple rain, which I love. Fleetwood mac rumours is not on that list. >> Meredith: crazy, sexy, cool . . . >> Tracy: so many huge artists. >> Tammie: nothing against frank ocean -- >> Tracy: no, nothing against frank ocean. >> Meredith: you talked to a lot of these people. What say you on this list? >> Devo: yeah, like I mean . . . Kendrick lamar is the only hip-hop artistn the top ten of that list. Music is subjective, right? We all have different things that we say is our favourite album. I understand that they had their career. They said it's editorial. So it's somebody's opinion. Frank ocean album, I'm not going to single out frank ocean, good album. Top five? No. It didn't even -- you know, first album got him a grammy nomination, second one did not. There was commentary on this that people might like. I think sometimes people overthink music a little bit and try and be a little snobish with it. >> Meredith: too cool. >> Devo: yeah, too cool with it. >> Meredith: what do you like? >> Devo: you say take it back. Abby road, years back -- >> Tracy: more. >> Devo: 80 or 100 years. >> Tracy: absolutely. >> Devo: I'm okay with the others in the top five, but yeah, I think -- sorry, and kendrick is not the hip-hop album that should be in the top ten. I want pac, biggie or other guys in there. >> Meredith: we want it all.that's what we want on "bt." Every morning is a chance to start fresh...
