On to our next story, it was a busy day at westford nursing home in port elgin, new brunswick with a walk, market and barbecue all on the itinerary and as ctv's alanna pickrell shows us, the packed schedule had multiple benefits. >> Reporter: under the sunshine, residents from westford nursing home laced up for this year's walk for alzheimer's. >> We do have a number of younger residents here who have been diagnosed with alzheimer's so as far as them giving back, a lot of them are giving back to themselves. >> Reporter: they took on the approximate 500 metre track to raise awareness. >> I think it's important to support alzheimer's research because there is a history of alzheimer's and dementia in my family. >> Well, I was a nurse, so I like helping people. >> Reporter: this is the first year since covid the home was able to invite family, friends and the community to be a part of it. And they took it one step farther with activities happening throughout the day including a barbecue, yard sale and market. All of which raise money for the residents who call westford home. >> This is a way that we can have our market, take our table fee that we would normally pay and just donate it to the nursing home. >> We do have budgets that are given to us that cover their nursing needs, their physical needs, and those types of things. When it comes to community needs and making connections in their communities, those things aren't part of what we are budgeted for. >> Reporter: and just to give an example of where that money has been used in the past -- >> We go and have an ice cream cone. Which I love. >> Reporter: two separate monetary goals were set for the event. $250 for the alzheimer's society of new brunswick and a thousand dollars to go back to the nursing home itself. While the total haven't been counted yet, the biggest goal of the day, community connection, was accomplished tenfold. >> It's just wonderful to see the smiles we had today. >> Reporter: alanna pickrell, ctv news, port elgin, new brunswick. >> Thank you, alanna. And kalin, it looks like they

had a gorgeous day. >> It does, doesn't it. It was a close call because just within the last hour near the elgin area, there was a little pop-up shower, a small thunderstorm that moved through. They are more widespread for other areas of new brunswick, we'll catch up on those after the break. In the meantime, let's take a look at this. Let's take a look at sunrise sunset times and a few thunderstorms on-going around parts of the region this evening. Thankfully not as strong or widespread but no clouds in the sky here over hammond's plains, nova scotia. We're looking at the beautiful qe2 home lottery, today is the last day to purchase tickets for your chance to win. Let's look at what's going on on radar here and as I mention, we have some showers and a few thunderstorms on the go. Now, most of the thunderstorms have been very brief, they have been popping up and then weakening just as quick. As I mention, one developed closer to the elgin area there in the southeast new brunswick and then what's left of that just drifting past or to the south of moncton. Showers more widespread

northern, central, and southwestern areas of new brunswick and a few more thunderstorms showing up for northern parts of that province. Those small little one popped up and moved into the vicinity or just north of grand falls. There's a couple that are drifting up and across the gaspe peninsula in quebec so for viewers on the peninsula there, yours is a risk of a couple of thunderstorms over at least the next couple hours and a few rumbling right now across parts of the acadian peninsula a lot of activities, showers, small thunderstorms coming to an end through the evening, most done by midnight. On our weather systems map, showers and thunderstorms of course accompanied by some cloud cover. We're looking at some fairly clear conditions for prince edward island, nova scotia. There have been a couple of isolated showers that popped up in the interior of nova scotia. Those will be coming to an end as we move through this evening and tonight as well. A little bit of a cold front coming through the region. It is going to cool our temperatures just a little bit this weekend, a little bit more than a little bit for parts of prince edward island and cape breton. We'll see that in a moment. On our timeline then for cloud cover and precipitation, though, you can see most showers comes to an end by around midnight with the exception of a chance of a few showers around prince edward island. A mix of sun and cloud to get saturday started and remaining a mix of sun and cloud, with a 20 or 30% chance of showers for eastern areas of new brunswick in the afternoon into the first part of the evening. And we're looking at a few clouds around saturday night into sunday morning. Winds in the forecast for tomorrow, mostly out of the northwest. They will be sustained 10 to 20 kilometres per hour. With fairly widespread gusts between 20 and 40. Low temperatures in the forecast for tonight around the maritimes, they come down a couple degrees compared to the last couple of nights. No risk of frost, though, multiple lows in the range of 8 to 12° and that's followed up tomorrow by high temperatures that will be mostly in the high teens and low 20. The exceptions will be parts of prince edward island, parts of cape breton tomorrow which will have some high temperatures, more around the low to mid-teens. Taking a look at the forecast for sunday, we do have a chance of some returning showers in the southwest of new brunswick and western areas of nova scotia. Other than that, it will be cloudy with sunny breaks. Let's take a look at our weather watcher for tonight. And tonight's weather watcher is four-year-old eloise duvet from new brunswick. Eloise sent us a drawing of a sunny day, rainbow and apple tree. Thank you, eloise, great job. Weather watchers can come into ctv weather watchers... Maria.
