We've been, you know, speaking people here may be hoping to catch a couple jays fans potentially before they had in for the game. And a lot of people telling us this is almost a long time coming. This is really good news, not only for toronto, not only for canada, but for women's sport in general. As we continue to women sport and women athletes taken more seriously in leeds. And really, it is about time, but this is exciting news. The wnba has its first canadian women's team and that's going to be here in toronto. So that is the big news is you're saying today that he was bought for 115 million dollars. We did hear from the owner today saying that, you know, this is going to a toronto team and this is a big day for toronto, but it's a big day for canada to because this team will be playing in markets around the country, including vancouver and montreal. For until may be potentially, there's more teams in canada down the road. A really big deal, as you said, we've been hearing so much reaction today from so many people around the city, including mayor olivia chow. We heard from prime minister justin trudeau as well about what this means for women's sport. What it means when it comes to empowering young girls and young boys at looking at other role models out there in professional sports leagues in professional basketball league. Here's more some of that reaction. I speak for the cause, the entire city, when I say we excited too. >> Watch the new team compete and I work with city council to make sure that we are ready for another huge championship parade. >> Our team will complete the pathway for women in this country. >> They will see heroes that look like them in person and on the air all summer long. >> Gain inspiration from asia. Wilson, diana taurasi, breanna stewart and kia nurse. They can see that the sport they play as girls. And as women, it's just as important and worth investing because the more we all recognize value and potential of women's sports. The closer we get to a more equitable future in the world of sports. >> So it's a big day, obviously, still a long road to go when it comes to equality in sport. Leena and bakari. And we're speaking with one woman down here today who said that, you know, she has a young daughter and she says this is great when it comes to having a role model for young girls. And as I said, young boys to look up to. She mentioned caitlin clark, obviously a big name in the basketball world that really took things by storm this so really good news. And just before I send it back to important to note this new team does not have a name yet, but the owners did say that they'll be taking their time when it comes to finding a name. And there will actually be public input as well. So a lot to look forward >> Back to you, that is for sure. Lindsay. The scam reporting live in staying with the story. (Dynamic instrumental music) (Dynamic instrumental music) >> The university of toronto has made an offer to the representatives of a pro-palestinian encampment in response to demands from protests. Let's go live to ctv queen's park bureau chief, siobhan morris for the very latest on what can you tell us? >> Well, this meeting we saw between the administration year at the university of toronto and student students were part of this encampment is a long-time coming. They've been going back and forth. We got finally hearing from the president of the university of toronto for the first time on this encampment today and offered that the universities offering all of the aim of trying to clear this encampment that's been here since early may. Here's more of what the president had to say about what the university's prepared to offer students in order to have them leave. >> The students understood that this was our best believe that recognize we're serious about ending the encampment sooner rather than later. And that the ball is now in their court to really decide on the commitments that we're offering. In exchange commitments are asking for from them acceptable. We hope that they will say yes. >> What meric gertler was offering the students as a whole bunch of things that starts with a commitment to reaffirm the university's commitment to human rights. Then by students to participate in a couple different processes that will

explore the possibility of disclosing investments that the university makes and possibly divesting. But again, those are going to be ongoing conversations. One thing the university says it will not do was breaking academic ties with israel. They say that they believe in independence academically. So that's not something they want to do that offer. The president says is good for 24 hours. The students have taken it back. They're going to reflect on it. And he says again that all of those conditions are all of those parts of the offer are contingent on the encampment being packed up, moving on in that convocation, which starts in june, that those ceremonies are not disrupted. >> Chabad, have you heard from any student protesters, they reacting to this proposal, another deliberating tonight. >> They have given a beginning of a a reaction to this in the race. Some concerns about what we heard from the president today. We heard that the president wasn't ruling out the possibility of using the police to clear this encampment at the f an agreement can't be reached. And they say that really sets the stage for the possibility of violence here on campus, in the ways that we saw at some universities in alberta, something students do not want to see what they say like the university, they want to see a peaceful resolution to this. So they are taking tonight to consider what has been presented to the school. The by the school, rather, the president says that he is willing to continue dialogue. But this is the offer the university's presented and we will get a more fulsome response from students at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. >> Okay with the latest on the encampment at the university of toronto. Ctv queen's park bureau chief siobhan morris. Thanks, thank you next, we'll take you live to toronto city hall where council is meeting for a second day. And councillors are expected to discuss a motion to speed up construction on the gardiner. For the latest, let's go live to cp24's sijia liu, who is in council chambers either bakari and leena. It's been a busy day here at council, but they still haven't gotten to the big topic today of gardiner expressway. Construction project and have to speed up the construction. We are expected to hear from councillor brant brantford later this evening. He is opposed to present a motion. >> On how to reduce the congestion there in speed up the construction. One of his proposals is to explore around the clock. 24 hour construction. >> To reduce the three-year timeline and save the city money. He's also looking into assemblies, assembling some of the construction off-site and delivering it as well as having a coordinated approach to the parallel streets that are already tied up with construction. But as for the 24 hour around the clock, construction at the current hours are 7:00am to 11:00pm monday to saturday. The current construction has meant a 30% reduction to capacity on 700 metre stretch of the card. You're affecting thousands of commuters each year and there is concern over at the construction noise, if it were to go. Some of the residents nearby would have to deal with that loud noise in the late hours a night. Mayor olivia chow says they are already discussing this with the contractor. Here's more from mayor olivia chow on plans to speed up the construction. >> I always dealing with traffic and it to the because some of us could make mistakes because think we know, but we may not. So the experience going to look at all of and find a way to a speed up construction. The improved it now. They'll doing that and good they >> Earlier today, city councillors voted to allow small electric cars on city streets up to 50 kilometres an hour. However, e scooters are still banned in the city. City staff also talked about the little police enforcement there is when it comes to the scooter councillor diane saxe shared her opinion on scooters in the city. She was in favour allowing scooters on city streets. >> I really hope the federal government does create standards. They should, but there is no sign that they're about to do and in the meantime, it's good. He's are all over roads. And as I say, the evidence we got was at this 40 to 50,000 in the city already and growing rapidly. So. It would be better if the federal government took action. It would be better if the provincial government took more action. But the fact is, they're not. And here we are in the city. This kid is everywhere and we're not doing anything to regulate. >> As for this evening in council chambers, we are keeping a close eye on the big topic that gardiner expressway project and possible 24/7 construction to speed that up.
