I'm super excited to be here. The wnba is coming to toronto and I get to be a part of that. And all these kids get to be a part of that. Super excited. >> Excitement on the kids faces you, I watch you all instructing his kids. What does it mean to you to pass on your basketball knowledge to these young guys? Pay basketball as a vehicle and I get to be a part of that. These kids are super excited, super happy and to see them smiling. I couldn't be more happier. What did you think of the news today? Oh, my goodness, I was super excited again, it was kind of in the talks and the words so great to be here. Now, I can't wait and they can't wait either. So yeah, little girls are seeing that and they get to you know, impacted influence. So yeah, so the great I heard some of kids talking here about being kids and looking up to these athletes as role models, maybe we can play in pros one date with your thoughts on that. >> I love it like I didn't have that growing up. Pretty good athlete is day spoke to cp24 about what having a wnba team in toronto will mean for the city and the province. >> I refer to as high performance sport because that's exactly what the who these women high performance athletes playing professional basketball. And so what it means to the community is the impact of the will have bringing people into town for overnights coming to games. The draw has been incredible. They just they know the curtain is getting pulled back and it's going to be a huge hit. >> Mayor olivia chow has declared today, wnba day here in the city of toronto right? It needs to be 26 now. Alright, switching gears researchers at the children's hospital of eastern ontario have use ai to find children who might have an undiagnosed rare genetic disease. For more on this, we're joined live by ctv's renee rodgers. This is awesome. Renee. I tell us more details about this technology. Now this is this is a massive breakthrough here. >> I fell and actually is really awesome. So we've I do a lot of things, you compose research papers, music. But now researchers at or the children's hospital of eastern ontario are using ai to essentially help diagnose children with rare genetic disorders. So there are approximately 6,000 rare genetic disorders and a lot of people when they have them wait for years to get a diagnosis, just because it's a it's extremely difficult for a frontline physician to know right off the top what disease they may have based on their symptoms. So basically researchers at cheo have developed an algorithm and they're calling it think rare. This algorithm scours the electronic medical records at the hospital. And from there it will identify children who could possibly have a rare genetic disease. Those children are flagged and then referred to genetic testing. So one of these children was actually a little boy, 10 year-old little boy, ning anthony with staff. He spent his entire life 10 years in and out of hospital, more than 100 outpatient appointments. 30 visits to the emergency room for various reasons. Never had a clear diagnosis until now. Just in february, he was diagnosed with chung jansen syndrome. Thanks to this ai technology. And his father says this has been a game-changer. Take a listen. >> It is a rare disease that there's about only 400 people in world known with this disease right know as we speak and actually the first one they noticed with this disease in north america and all that takes to heal. And now we can actually. But the rest your questions and know exactly what. Anthony have. >> And now not only can they get him on the path to treatment. But another interesting thing with that clear diagnosis, anthony's school was able to apply for and get funding to help address some of anthony's needs. Alright, save artificial intelligence isn't all that bad. Rogers, thanks so much. You're welcome. >> I will back here. Man in his 40's is dead after a double shooting outside a mississauga school. Shots were fired in the parking lot and settlers green public school on. >> Mont video road near winston churchill boulevard in battleford road, just after 11 last night, the 2 victims were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, where one later died. Police say the victim in hospital is a male under the age of 20, who remains in critical condition. >> We're not sure at the time right now at present that the vehicles on how they are related to the investigation. That is something that will be certain to to update. And we're looking into right now at the time, it was a it was pretty populated in the evening varying reports of anywhere from 10 to 20 people gathered in that lot for reasons we don't know yet the time of the shooting. There are reports of vehicles leaving the area but it's unfortunately, it's too early to tell what moments whether those witnesses or suspects or just individuals fleeing the sound of gunfire. >> O it's crazy. Like I never thought this area with like of stuff. You know. Because we moved to because it's like a really safe, like nice part of mississauga. So it's like a really scary. >> Investigators say they don't have any suspect information yet, but several vehicles did flee the area. And some witnesses have come forward. Also, police are asking for help identifying a suspect in alleged sexual assault at union station. Investigators have released

these security camera. The images of the man they're looking for now. Police allege a woman was sexually assaulted on an eastbound go train in the station last friday. The suspect was last seen going north on bay street is described as being 20 to 30 years old, 5 foot 10 with a slim build who was wearing dark clothing, a baseball hat and carrying a skateboard. And with asian asked to call police or crime stoppers. And gta police services have launched a campaign to combat street racing is called project erase. That stands for eliminate racing activity on streets everywhere kicked off at exhibition place this morning. Police in toronto, york, peel halton hamilton and the opp were in attendance. They're coming together for this campaign because they say street racing has no jurisdictional boundaries. >> It's crucial for people to understand the risk associated with illegal street racing and the potential consequences not only for themselves, but for other users of our roads. We want to emphasize the importance of keeping racing activities confined to legal race trucks. This is essential for public safety. We want to encourage the public and empower communities to report dangerous driving and illegal racing activity. >> These drivers have organized themselves and advertise them eats on social media, routinely encouraging followers to attend. The stunts are often performed in front of groups of onlookers stand far too close to the dangerous activities that are taking place just to try to capture the next viral video for social media. They're placing themselves in harm's way and they're risking serious injury or worse. >> Stunt driving and street racing carry possible fines up to $10,000 as well as a 30 day license suspension at roadside and a 14 day vehicle. City council voted to allow small electric cars with a maximum speed of 50 kilometres an hour on streets. E-scooters remain banned streets, although it is legal to own them in toronto. City staff also admitted that there was little police enforcement of this e-scooter ban. >> I think council is not really taking the issue seriously because people are being harmed not actually providing rules in place, but the rules in place. I've seen people ride the scooters on the sidewalk, right? I've seen them write a little bit. The subways, for example, we saw what happened with the fires is no direction from the city as to what is and what is not is not being enforced by the police. Don't have the capacity to actually enforce the rules. >> I really hope the federal government does create standards. They should, but there is no sign that they're about to do so. And in the meantime, it's good. He's are all over roads. And as I say, the evidence we got was that is 40 to 50,000 in the city already and growing rapidly. So. It would be better if the federal government took action. It would be better if the provincial government took more action. But the fact is, they're not. And here we are in the city. This kid is everywhere and we're not doing anything to regulate. >> Gaza brad bradford will be presenting a motion this afternoon to make sure the city does all it can to speed up construction on the gardiner as well. >> We need to be exploring items like 24/7 construction assembly of some of the infrastructure off-site delivery. And finally having a coordinated approach to all of the parallel streets in the downtown that are equally congested and tied up with construction. You're dealing with major construction projects on lakeshore on gardiner, on king street, richmond adelaide queen. And that's why it at such a breaking point right now because there are no alternative routes for people to to use.
