Let's have a preseason game near which coming up the pandemic. We eventually did in 23 little 3 years late, but I saw excitement in the vibrancy of the city around women's sports and women's basketball. Us stirling road happened this morning as a show of solidarity. Hundreds of employees walked off the job about 3 weeks ago. The union's key demands include pension plan improvement. It says that no progress has been made at the bargaining table so far.

>> Everybody supports said the workers. The chocolate factory has been making millions of dollars during covid they're investing 110 million into the plant. So it goes to show you it's a it's a good 5 tree. The workers want to share just like the metro strike. Great people want to people want their fair share of the of the profits. >> The demands that the workers have our fair they're right, demands. And I they're thinking about their future, it's about pensions, it's about. >> It's unfortunate, we can't resolve all issues that this company has. And the workers have that, whether it's workers working without benefits. They're working in one of the most expensive cities in canada, if not the world. And with inflation going up with rents, with the mortgage payments, it's, it's not acceptable that nestle is not at the table dealing with these workers trying to resolve resolve this dispute. >> Unifor says that there are currently no negotiation dates planned. >> The city will be celebrating its newest arrivals today as it looks to help them adjust to life in toronto. This this is where officials are speaking about ongoing efforts to help save durham's hospital. This is amid the announcement of the closure of all their inpatient that's >> But we've hit wall. So at this point in time. We've hired. Some very large urban lawyer. That is representing us. And I'm here to say it probably in the next 48 hours. That it seems like this is all that we're going to be able to how we're going to be able to negotiate. Certainly not a way that we want to. We're going to be required to, want and need 2. But here we are. We'll go at it, attack it because we've tried everything we can to go. She ation conversation. That's not working. So now we're going to go the legal route and that's what I'm here to announce today that that's going to happen. I hope the county of grey and the support of. Individuals that are here too podium with me today as well too. It said that we've come to this, in a democracy, we can't have open and free speech and be able to puts things forward to resolve or issues for a community. But as I said, here we are. And this is the avenue we've got to take. I got to take council of west grey has to take to protect our community and our citizens and deliver. One of the most substantial things that being an ontario one person in west grey person being a canadian. Of access to health care. Thank you for listening today. I think we have a few other people, not only that would like to >> Okay, many in the local community of durham have expressed concerns about this. We're hearing from officials this hour at queen's park talking about the ongoing efforts to help save a hospital in durham region. Amid the announcement of the closure of all their inpatient beds will keep a close eye on that story for you. >> Looking at other headlines, a double shooting at a mississauga school parking lot happened overnight. It's left a man in his 40's that another young is fighting for his life. And let's bring in ctv. Toronto's john musselman, who is live at the scene with the very latest on. >> Well, it happened in the parking lot right behind me is just adjacent to a school. This happened around 11 o'clock last night. Peel. Regional police they confirm one man is dead in his 40's. Another man critically injured. This appears to be a targeted shooting. So something happened in this parking lot last night. There is an altercation and shots were fired. Neighbours are telling us they heard at least 2 or 3 shots ring out here just after 11 o'clock last night when police arrived, that's when they found the victims. Here is what police and witnesses said to tell us this morning. >> The way the call came in and informed us that there was some form of gathering here at the lot size on the east side of the school. The nature of that gathering is is unknown at this time. But there was some sort of altercation that that occurred between the 2 victims and either a suspect or suspects. The number right now were unclear. >> We were like maybe a kilometre to wait. And then we we heard like a lot of sirens like police sirens and then I thought we heard like like some sort of like pop or like some sound, but it might have been just like a car screeching. And then it was around like 10 48 11. So yeah.

so but I don't know how much that will help >> And again, the school, the school is open here. There's no that way, was just a part of the parking lot last night at 11 o'clock. Now police continue to canvass the neighbourhood looking for any type of surveillance video or any witnesses who may have seen a car leaving this area last night. Anyone with information is being asked to call peel regional police reporting live from the scene of john musselman. Said back to okay. Find yours today, at ShopToyota.ca (Mellow music) >> Alright westjet is introducing a cheaper fare for those willing to fly without carry on in. For a closer look at this, we're joined live by john gradek lecturer and academic programs coordinator of supply chain logistics operations and integrated aviation management at mcgill university. John. Okay, slim. Get the street. I can cheaper fare. If I don't bring anything on the plane like I just walked out with me. >> Yeah, you can walk an airplane with just something that would under the seat in front of you. So a briefcase or purse ers, whatever it is that you have has that they're mentions that would fit under you see in front of you. That's okay. If you have anything that requires you. The story overhead you have to pay a higher fare. So they're, they're you know, scrambling here trying to opportunities to, in fact, reduce the cost of flying kind nickel and dime you when it comes to stuff that you can take a more. >> Yes, so that leads to questions, right? Okay. One is actually going to work in practice in 2. What all are we paying for that? We shouldn't be paying for you to nickel and dime in an almost everything. >> Yeah, it's getting a little ridiculous. I think so that the carriers are looking to try to differentiate themselves from each other and trying to create a unique product that basically competition can't do so. This is westjet's attempt 2 fact create a new class of fares that I'm not sure use a lower fare. Probably the other fares will go higher. But this you know, the conditions associated with little fair are no carry on cannot fit under the scene for you, you're saying, you know, premium space in that case and overhead bin, these people today don't have enough room. So we're going to create a disincentive for people to bring stuff on board by creating is the fair. So it's, it's really you making it very confusing. >> Hey, john, what going to do for summer travel, especially because isn't there also part of this announcement that there's going to be more seats added to the back of the plane. >> Yeah, I'm not sure that's going to happen before the summer. I think, you know, that's how long, you know, it's process to get 185 her plays that I think from what I understand, you know, all of those are I'm going to fit in with an extra row seats in the back of your plan. Question is, what's the fun? Is the back of your point. So I'm I'm

figuring if you want to put an extra row of seats, there is going to be the last 12 that basically now become the last 13 rooms are going for one they're in the same amount of of lee, you're feeling what your so instead of having 28 28 pitch on those seats, you know, i-26, 26 and a half so see to get really tight. So if you're my size your size, that's not the place you want have to spend 5 or 6 hours flight from toronto to vancouver. >> Okay, so jot bottom line, what does this mean for travellers you know, summer vacation coming up because look, the temperatures are going up and sort people's attitudes, especially when it comes to, you know, travel during the summer in the frustrations. >> You I would have thought that, you know, summer 23 would have been our last major summer bottlenecks and crises. If you remember last year was pretty bad. >> And some are 22, worst. So we thought we had turned the corner, all the staff, airlines and the airports reduce. I know. But what's happening now is that the airlines are having a problem getting airplanes going slow. Airbus is slow. >> They're not many are pleased to be able marketplace. So he's scheduled get plans are going to be full fares are going to be high or higher than they were last summer. And summer. 24 looks to be a little bit of chaos. Discontent and unfortunately, canadians haven't got much of an option. All the carriage encana suffer from customer service efficiencies. So welcome to summer, 24 >> All right, that they're the best weekend. John gradek, faculty lecturer and academic programs coordinator of supply chain logistics operations and integrated aviation management at mcgill university. Thanks for your time this afternoon. >> Have a great day care. >> Well, coming up next in cp24 live at noon. We're going go to city hall next.
