Hydro crews busy overnight trying to restore electricity to thousands of customers following a line of powerful storm that swept across northern york region and the barrie area last night. >> Hold on. The person who talks rush to get believed there was a tornado nearby, however there are no reports of tornadoes touching down at this time. A tornado warning that had been issued by environment canada.

>>> This is what hydro crews have been facing 33. The utility says outages are mostly the result of downed trees and limbs. Over 200 outages have impacted more than 8000 hydro one customers, mostly in accord or west of barrie and of the orillia area. The lights are expected to come back on throughout the day. >>> Toronto city councillors will be back at it again today looking at dozens of items on the agenda. Yesterday dominated by discussions over dollar and sense, specifically with council weighing an asset management plan that shows $26 billion hole in the city's ten year plan to maintain the infrastructure that is necessary to maintain current service levels. The hope is that other levels of government will throw the city a financial lifeline. >>> This is going to be a hot topic. Councillors brad bradford and jon burnside putting forward a motion to speed up construction work along the gardiner. This proposal is to get the rehabilitation work happening around the clock in an effort to reduce the three year timeline for the project. It is a discussion that is already happening behind the scenes at city hall. >> This is absolutely having an impact on our economy. It is killing small business, and the quality of life here in the city is starting to erode. And oh minister sakari has been very supportive of the idea of moving faster. It is unfortunate that we have had to put people through this over the past seven weeks. I am hopeful that council will share my position and we will find a way to get this done faster because it is time for city hall to take congestion more seriously. >> City staff are already doing that. They are looking into it right now. They are testing some of the equip mint to see how noisy it is in the evenings, to see if they can accelerate the work and how they could do that best. They are also consulting with industry experts. They are employing prefabrication techniques of materials. Of course they are looking to do more. I welcome the suggestions by councillor burnside and councillor bradford. In fact I will ask for that report comeback earlier and come back in july because I know our capable city staff are already working on those things speak to mayor olivia chow's second priority item will also be discussed. It is an official plant amendments coming before councillors who will ask them to consider townhouses and small-scale apartment buildings on major streets in the city. Staff recommends six story buildings, with 30 units, 60 unit buildings are also up for discussion.

The league's commissioner has confirmed the news to the associated press. The wnba has said any new teams will be added to the 2026 season kilmer sports ventures is reported to own the team, and is promising to make a major announcement at this news conference today. Kilmer also a co-owner of maple leaf sports and entertainment. The toronto franchise would be the league's first outside of the us. The news conference is set to begin at 9:00 am. >>> Two people are in critical condition after shooting outside of a misissauga school. Police say shots were fired in the parking lot of settlers green public school, this is near montevideo road near winston churchill boulevard and battleford road. We're giving you a live look at the parking lot area. Dallas ins of evidence markers there. This happened after 11:00 last night. We know two victims were taken to hospital in life threatening condition. Investigators say they don't have any suspect information yet but this appears to be an isolated incident. >>> Still investigating after a driver crashed into a home in markham. This crash happened on blatchford crescent in the donald pleasants parkway and steeles area just after 10:00 last night. One person was injured and taken to hospital but is expected to recover. There is no word on what caused the driver to veer off the road and go into the home. >>> Teenage boy is dead and a man facing charges after a crash in vaughan around 10:45 tuesday night in the area of martin grove and langstaff. Police say the 16-year-old boy who died was writing a mini bike when he was struck at a four-way stop near jackman crescent. 24-year-old harnoor chauhan is now charged in this crash. >> The driver of the vehicle at the collision was subsequently arrested and charged for dangerous operation causing death, failed to stop after an accident causing death, and possession of a controlled substance. We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward who may have dashcam footage, surveillance video from their homes to please come forward and contact our investigators, as well as any doorbell cameras at the residence please come forward. >> Courtney: police also say harnoor chauhan was on bail on unrelated defences at the time of the crash. The 16-year-old boy who was killed has not been identified.

>>> York police are concerned a 20-year-old man charged with sexual offences involving minors has been approaching students at high schools in the newmarket area. Police have also released a photograph of this individual. 20-year-old janarthan sivaranjan is now facing multiple charges. Police believe on two separate occasions last year he lied about his age, posed as a teenager and met with girls. In one case police say he attended a party and then told a 13-year-old girl he was 16 before arranging to meet at a later date. >>> A man has been convicted of murdering his mother in leslieville in 2022. A jury ruling 23-year-old dallas ly is guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his mother, 56-year-old tien ly. Her body was found in several garbage bags in march of 2022 on eastern avenue after she was fatally stabbed in the apartment she shared with her son. During the trial, it was never in question that ly has killed his mother, but the defence had argued it was the result of years of abuse. He's going to be sentenced at a later date. >>> A woman found dead in lake ontario almost seven years ago has been identified as a missing person from switzerland. Police released this drawing of the woman after she was found dead in humber bay in august of 2017. In january of last year, policed use the woman's dna and determined she had distant relatives in north america who had heritage that traced back to a specific region of switzerland. Toronto police then got in contact with swiss police, then tracked down the woman's family and confirmed the dna match, bringing this cold case to a close. >>> The on scene investigation into a deadly boat crash on a lake north of kingston has wrapped up with new details emerging. >> Underwater search and recovery unit will all do their part, along with the reconstructionist and traffic collision investigators to determine what caused this collision between two vessels. >> Courtney: three people between the ages of 21 and 23 were killed when the speed boat collided with a fishing boat. This happened on bobsleigh saturday night. Five others were hospitalized. The opp say the crash happened on a narrow channel, with the speedboat ending up on top of the small fishing boat next to a concrete dock near a few cottages. Police also say they can't yet speculate on whether there will be any charges in this case.

>>> The us justice department has its sights now on trying to break up live nation's dominance of the concert industry. Doj expected to file an antitrust lawsuit against live nation and its ticketmaster subsidiary. A successful case could potentially lead to sweeping changes in the market for live events. Live nation has come under fire recently for some technical glitches that prevented millions from purchasing those very hot tickets for taylor swift's eras tour. Many believe a lack of competition has lead to poor customer service, confusing pricing and also very expensive ticketing fees. >>> The country's top banking regulator warning of possible financial turmoil ahead as homeowners face mortgage renewals. In it's latest annual risk outlook, the office of the superintendent of financial institutions says more than 75 percent of all mortgages here in canada are set to renew between now and the end of 2026, and most of those owners will be facing a higher rate reading their monthly bills could skyrocket. Of particular concern are negatively amortizing loans, where the payments are already only going to the interest and not making a dent in the principal loan amount. >>> The canadian food inspection agency says it might be expending a recall of a certain brand of mushrooms. The cfia says the recall only applies to ontario right now, but it could expand to other provinces and territories. These little friends get a snack from the cicadas. Annoying to us, and a lot of people really are overwhelmed by the sound of them. They sound like sirens going off. People calling police like what is going on in some southern states. >> Courtney: almost taken aback by how loud they are sometimes. Get it. >> Bill: sometimes stepping back and seeing all of the peripheral positives of these things can put everything into perspective. >> Courtney: interesting how there's a certain bug for certain regions. I went to school and lived in north bay for years. The flies were a big thing. Chad flies. >> Bill: absolutely. A know it is overwhelming. They will cover your doors and windows. >> Courtney: in the morning people would literally wash off the windows of their businesses in the downtown area because it was that thick. >> Bill: so brief. It's only like a week or two and then it's gone. >> Courtney: if you are in that area you know all about them.
