Garden centre skyway bridge. Opp say a wheel came off a passenger van, hit a pickup truck and went through the bus windshield. A 48-year-old toronto man who was a passenger was killed. Three other passengers were seriously hurt. This happened around 3:40 yesterday afternoon. >>> A mother and child were sent to hospital after being struck by a vehicle in etobicoke last night t happened before 5:30 near royal york road. Paramedics say that the mother and child were taken to hospital but their injuries are considered minor. Police are investigating and say the driver remained on scene. >>> The university of toronto has delivered a trespass notice to organizers of a pro palestinian encampment, but the protest continues. The university says the deadline to leave the space is now 8 A.M. monday morning. But before then the two sides will meet again for talks at 5 P.M. on sunday. It follows an offer the university presented yesterday in a bid to end the week's long protest. It includes forming a working group. To consider disclosure of its investments, but u of t also says it will not end any partnerships with israeli universities. >> This administration confirmed with us that they are meeting with us at 5 P.M. but moving forward with the trespass notice. You know this notice is a first of much longer process. You know with these type of things you know they issue the notice and then you know that starts to get the wheels turning. And led the crown attorney to tell the jury in the murder trial that he went to work in the ware house. Crown attorney said that you will will... ... >> Reporter: the crown says on may 29th 2021 that plan was put into action alleging he was shot 17 times. -- 7 times in 18 seconds. Witnesses said they saw a slender man rush from the restaurant. And hopped into the trunk of a waiting vehicle and sped off. The mother was shot in the arm. She rushed in to see other family members being shot including one of her sons. She said I looked at him. He was looking at me. I could see the blood everywhere on the ground. I could do nothing. She said she called 9-1-1 and then asked any driver in the restaurant to help. Police pulled footage on route to follow the accord back to the business one officer testified a major break in the case. Ctv news. >> Police have released images of two suspects in an assault and robbery investigation on the ttc. They are trying to identify two men police say on tuesday a victim intervened when he saw two men bothering another person in a temporary bus bay. The victim was then assaulted and had his personal belongings stolen. Investigators are appealing for information about the two suspects.

>>> York regional police are investigating a series of shootings at a cinema in richmond hill. They released video showing shots being fired at york cinemas near east beaver creek road and highway 7. The shots were fired from three different vehicles on three -- the first time on may 17th. Shots were fired again two days later on may 19th. And then again early friday morning around 2:30 A.M. the shots were fired toward the main entrance of the theater each time. No one was hurt. The three suspect vehicles are described as white four door pickup truck with a black cargo bed cover, a red suv with silver rims, and a dark colored suv with black rims. Police are appealing for information. Tips can also be left with crime stoppers. >>> Independence mp kevin strong has asked to run for the federal conservatives in the next election. He was a liberal candidate in 2021 but was dropped by the party days before the vote for -- he won the seat and has been sitting as an independent since then. He is hoping conservative leader people's party will nominate him in the gta riding. He has voted on side of the conservative on a range of issues and he obtained party membership last november. Party spokesperson sarah fisher says that tories are not considering bringing him into caucus >>> Ontario ndp they are calling for action to help families facing uncertainty following the province's latest funding delay. News conference came after the the provincial government told child care centres that it will implement a new way of funding the national $10 a day program starting in 2025. >> What is the difference between ontario's approach verse others in other provinces? Ontario specifically scrapped their planned increases which would account for inflations or planned increases since it was implemented. Unlike other provinces who have increased their contributions which makes perfect sense when you're building a system from the ground up, they have flat lined it. That has been likely the most significant difference in why this hasn't rolled out in ontario the same way it has across the country. >> 92% of licensed child care providers have opted into the $10 a day program

And a person says okay we will have a conversation. Don't worry. It is confidential. Now can you please tell me about the worst thing that you have been experiencing. >> Reporter: the lack of privacy and need for a calm place prompted the creation of the new purple zone. >> The goal was to improve patient experiences. The staff that that are here are trained both as medical nurse and is mental health nurses. Our patients come from triage. Before they would have have to go wait in an area wait for the emerge dock to see them. See by an emerge nurse who doesn't have the mental health back ground and then wait for hours. >> We do see patients from like may be feeling a little bit of grief, depression, to patients who may be a danger to themselves or others. >> Reporter: this nurse says people coming into the er can be diverted to the purple zone. >> It streamlines their access to mental health help. >> Reporter: it features individual secure rooms with soothing surroundings. >> I have come in crisis myself and extreme crisis and the lack of noise and the purple zone and the privacy, the fact that there is kind of individual attention those are really big things. >> Reporter: andrew works as a peer councillor outside of the hospital. Where he is a peer support navigator with the pupal zone. >> The emergency department at north york general see 300 patients a day with about 4% of those dealing with mental health problems. >> So that 4% keep growing every year because the emerge volumes grow every year. >> Reporter: there are plans for hiring more staff and building more connections to community mental health organizations. The trains will operate every 15 minutes between union station to oakville and then hourly between oakville to west harbour. -- suspended for critical track work. During this time buses will only run between highway 407 and alan dale water front. And a heads up for ttc riders that there will be a subway closure to keep in mind. There will be no service on line 2 between woodbine and kennedy stations today and sunday. Crews will be doing track work. Shuttle buses will be running. Fort nelson's mayor told people that conditions are still unsafe to come back. Warning those returning early could cause congestion on the highways and stop healthcare workers from getting through. Officials hoping people can return early next week >>> Experts in healthcare and climate adaptation are calling on canada to disaster proof its hospitals. It comes as extreme weather events threaten the healthcare system. The canadian climate institute says disasters that bring people to the emergency room also strike the hospitals themselves. Hospitals across the country have had to stop operations because of extreme weather over the last several years.
