(Dynamic music) This week on Things to Know TO, men's lifestyle expert Richard Cazeau shares his spring and summer must-haves. We chat with the newest host of CTV's daytime talk show, The Social. Plus, Connect Education teaches us how to find the right tutor to support your kids' needs. And we check in with radio host Jamar McNeil and learn about CHUM's exciting car giveaway contest. Hi, everyone. I'm Nicole Servinis. What's up, everybody? That must mean I'm Teddy Wilson. Hi, Nicole, hi to you. Glad you're with us. Welcome to Things to Know TO. We're a weekly show, Saturday mornings, highlighting some of the awesome local businesses and initiatives right here in our great community. You good? I'm great. Are you kidding? Good to see you; missed you last week, but glad you're back. I missed you too. I'm so glad, I came back and I brought a little tan with me. You brought some tan! Not from the warm weather here, though. No, no. But I did have a really good time. But I'm also happy to be back. It's warmish, though, it's getting warmer. It is, it is, and with the warm weather, I mean, us ladies, I'd like to say, sure like to change up our routine, like our beauty regime, our wardrobe, got the pipes out, you know, get into the season. Gun show over there. Yeah, look out. But so do men, right? Yeah, yeah, you're not wrong, and here to share some spring and summer must-haves for fellows like me, lifestyle expert Richard Cazeau; check it out. Alright, here to help us make the most of the sunny days ahead-- oh, and thank goodness they're ahead-- we're going to get inspired by our pal, lifestyle expert Richard Cazeau. Hey, Richard. How are you, my friend? I'm good, Teddy, how are you? Awesome. So if people are looking to upgrade their vehicle for the summer-- maybe they want to do something cool with their ride-- what suggestions do you have? Well, the one thing I want to suggest all the time is just, like, detailing and looking after it is definitely important, maintenance and all. But if it's time for something new, think about what you're going to go through and what it offers. And the one recommendation I want to make is a great SUV that's got crossover capabilities, great engine power, and of course, loading power as well. So the first thing we'll get into is the GMC Acadia. It has a spacious interior, plenty of cargo space, and extra leg room for passenger comfort. Also, the new 2.5 L turbocharge engine just provides more power and better trailer capacity. And so there's two great trims. There's the Denali for luxury and the AT-4 for ruggedness. You could also enhance your driving experience with accessories like liners and cargo tools, or you can use the supercruise hands-free option, which is great on the highways as well. So for more, you can visit gmccanada.ca. I see you've got a great yard behind you there. For folks who have a really good yard and they want to get some yard work done over the season, what do you have that can help make it all easier? There, without a doubt, I am obsessed with my lawn. I know a couple other broadcasters like yourself who are obsessed with their lawns. So what we've got here is the Benchmark cordless lawnmower, trimmer and blower combo set. And it's only available at Home Hardware stores across Canada. So you can easily switch between cutting, mulching, trimming and cleanup tasks by using Benchmark's rechargeable universal lithium ion battery, as you can see here. And so it's just easy to make it go from one item to another, get the job done and make your environment look great. To learn more, you can visit homehardware.ca, or you can visit your local shop for more tips and tools. What do you have for cleaning up indoors and making yourself feel good living in a clean space? You've got to maintain, so let's get rid of the scuffs and the grease and the dirt on the walls, and a great way of doing that is using Mr Clean's Magic Eraser Ultra Thick. And it's a brand-new, thicker magic eraser which is just great for sneakers, patio furniture, car rims, and it's an all-purpose cleaner. It just does so much work, seven times more than the original, and it just makes it stronger and even more durable based on the way it's been created and made. It will just erase at least up to 150 messes only using water, so it's great that way, and will effortlessly get rid of dirt, grime, in deep-grove surfaces and dirty textures. So for more, you can visit mrclean.com. Richard, you know me. My personal grooming is mediocre to middling at best, but you're a very finely groomed gentleman, sir. So what do you have in terms of must-have grooming essentials? First of all, let's set the record straight. You're looking good, Teddy. You take care of yourself. It's all good. I can see it. Get some of this, too, and we'll be talking a little more, right? You'll be a beardo just like me. But let's get into Cremo grooming products. They just give you that barber-quality shave. So their original shave cream is slick as can be. It's prepping your skin for the smoothest shave ever while fighting razor burn. And their new weighted razor feels like a professional tool in your hand,

with maximum grip and control so that you can shape your facial hair just how you like to have it, Teddy. And also, Cremo's bourbon and oak body wash smells amazing. So they've got this premium, uncommonly good, long-lasting scent. So for a full range of Cremo beard, shave, and body products, you can visit your local Shoppers Drug Mart. Very cool. Now, Richard, you and I are, like, legit film nerds, but everybody, even if they're not as hardcore into cinema as you and I are, everybody loves going to the movies. So what about getting out to see a movie this summer? Yeah, that's right. You know what, the weather has gotten better, it's what we've been waiting for, so go out to your local IMAX movie theatre or drive-in theatre, all depends on your vibe, and go see one of my favourite films that's coming out this season. Teddy, take a look. It's Furi-os! There will always be war. But to get home... Furiosa fought the world. Whoa! Aaaaah! Yes! I can't wait! Yeah, right, exactly. So if you saw the one prior to that, Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa's going to be just as great. It's another Mad Max saga, and what I love is that, you know, it's another anticipated film by George Miller. It's got Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, and so it's just a standalone adventure that has the same roots and origins as the Mad Max saga and series, and it's going to be amazing. It's in theatres, it's going to be high-octane, you won't want to miss it this season. Kick off the season with a great blockbuster, and this is one, definitely, to see. Oh, I love all the films in that franchise, so thanks for ending on that one, Richard. Appreciate you talking to us, thanks so much, and have a great spring and summer. Always a pleasure, Teddy. We'll see you soon. Bye-bye. Thanks to Richard. Always love chatting with him. Always. He inspires me. Absolutely-- somebody else who inspires me? And I think you? Our good friend, and the newest host of CTV's daytime talk show, The Social. Andrea Bain, coming up next. Andrea's great. She's awesome. You're alright too. Thanks. You're welcome. Try it today, VectorVest because everything else is just noise. I am so excited, because today, I'm on set of the Social, and hanging with the newest host, and one of my personal favourite people in the world, Andrea Bain. I know, how are we gonna have a serious interview?

We go way back, I love you so much, I'm like okay, let's be professionals and let's-- you're gonna ask me questions and I'm gonna pretend to answer, okay. Okay, ditto. Ditto, honestly. This won't be a girl catch up. But honestly, how is it going? You know, it is incredible. It is super busy, so much fun, overwhelming, wonderful. I have cried tears of joy. Like the most amount of love. That's actually the best part, has been people just kind of walking up to me, like, unexpectedly and sharing their stories, or like "I love you, I voted for you to be on the show." Nicole: What was it like for you kind of entering the girl gang? The best way to describe it is like Double Dutch. It's like okay, okay, okay. I can't do that, just so you know, I can't do that. Listen, you know, they had to tell me, before I got hired I was on the show 30 times. 10 seasons under their belt and I'm coming in and you've really just got to pay attention. They've laid a great groundwork of being great women and representing themselves and being intelligent and funny. I want to be here and be myself and tell those stories and get people to understand, it's like we can have hard conversations, we can have fun conversations, and honestly I never really think about what I'm saying until afterwards in the commercial break, I'm like I should probably call my family. (Laughing) I should probably give them a heads up that I just spoke about this. But it's also-- because I've spoken about things, reunited me with a lot of people I haven't spoken to, or like thanks for sharing that story, I feel really great that, you know, you remembered. So it's also been really good. I'm comfortable with everything I say. I'd say it on the street, I'd say it on the show, I'd say it to you on the phone. So I'm good with who I am, and I like the people that-- listen, if I'm starting a conversation then I'm doing my job. Yeah. Thank you for letting me go viral. So yeah, that's part of the job. Now, I know that a lot of work happens behind the scenes. Yeah. And even behind, behind the scenes, there's chemistry that's built between you women of course sitting at the table. What is something that you think people don't know or haven't seen on the show? On the show? I've had people come up to me and they really think that we get here five minutes before the show starts, roll in, put a little lip gloss on and just start shooting the-- you know. Nicole: Yeah. Andrea: I was like, uh, actually, no. You actually get the topics sometimes day before, you have to go through, read-- Nicole: Sometimes it's the morning of, things change. Andrea: Sometimes it's the morning of, so you have to know what's going on, you have to read the news, you've got to be on top of what's going on. You gotta do a lot of research because you also have to spew out facts, you can't just get here and go "So what I think is..." You have to sometimes back it up with real facts. You have to know to do your research. So I think that's the one thing. People think we just get dressed up and like oh my gosh, let me tell you about my opinion. It's like no, you really have to know what you're talking about. Is there someone on the bucket list that you want to have on the show? Easy. Easy, easy. I have one for the women and one for the men. Okay. So for women it's former First Lady Michelle Obama. Yeah! Right? Like, goes without saying. I don't even know if she were sitting on this couch, I don't know what would happen to me. I don't know if I'd be able to talk. That's how I feel about meeting some of my heroes. I'm like I would just not have any words. Or I'd just never shut up, I don't know but you know what? If she comes here we'll find out. So that's for the women and for the men-- Manifesting it for you. Manifesting. Michelle, Michelle, come onto the show, Michelle. And for the men, hands down it's actor Jesse Williams. I know why. I have a pretty strong inkling why would want him on the show. Yes, because of his intelligence. Nicole: Strictly. Andrea: He's a very smart guy. And he's a foodie, and that's the reason why. And that's it, not that he's smoking hot, not at all. And his body's really nice. Not at all. Not at all, I don't enjoy that at all. Hate it. Also what else is happening this season? Is there anything you can tease that we can look forward to that's happening? If I were to tell you then it wouldn't be a good tease. You have to tune in every day, Monday to Friday. I tried! At 2:00 PM on CTV, because we've always got something good. Whether it's-- sometimes it's a topic that's really hot and sometimes it's a guest and sometimes it's a combo, whatever it is you have to tune in, folks. You gotta watch! I love watching, and I love watching you. And thanks so much for having me in your home today. Are you kidding me? I gotta come to your house next time. Ding, dong, it's me! No problem. And we can talk about your dating life. We have snacks, we have cocktails, all of it. And we can talk about your dating life. Oh, that's for another show, Andrea, for sure. I always love catching up with Andrea and I'm so happy for her. She's an amazing team member with those ladies. I'm happy for her too. Like you said, been on the show the odd time. I've written for them from time to time as well, and she's really cool to work with, like both in front of the camera as you know, but also working with her behind the scenes. Good people, super down to earth, smart, so it's great, she's a really rad addition to the team. She's been there a while, but she fits in absolutely perfectly. She really does. Yeah, okay, up next, Connect Education teaches us how to find the right tutor to support your kid's needs. (Upbeat theme music) (Male announcer reads screen) Nice Dress! -And tons of Cash Back too. (Male announcer reads screen) (Upbeat theme music) Connect Education is a platform that connects parents with classroom teachers for personalized lesson planning, tutoring and any other academic support their child needs outside of the classroom setting. And joining me now is the CEO and co-founder Marilyn Solano. Thanks for joining us, and I'm really interested in this. How did you start with Connect Education? Like, tell us the story. Well, the way we started was-- it was based out of a need, actually, and my own need with my own children. I was looking for tutoring support after the pandemic, because both my kids were struggling. And so I found that tutoring is actually an unregulated industry. And I actually wanted to have somebody that understood the curriculum, someone that was in a classroom setting that knew how to work with children. And so that's where it just started. Taylor: So are they teachers then, that you're... Like who are the teachers that are on this platform, because like, you know, for me as a parent, I'm concerned too. Like now that you said that tutoring's unregulated, I'm like who have I been sending my kids to back in the day? So who are the people on your platform? So the people on our platform are actual OCT certified educators. They're ECEs and also students in teacher's college. Amazing, and what sets Connect Education apart from some of the other tutoring businesses? Well, there's actually a lot of things, but we'll start with like the top ones. The first one is as I mentioned, the tutors that are on the platform are actual classroom teachers, retired teachers, students that are going to teacher's college, early childhood educators. And so just that alone just makes it so much better for the parent. Because one, teachers have their police background check, they have to do certifications in order to work in a classroom setting. And so in addition to that, they follow the curriculum. Taylor: And then how do you connect them together? Like, with budgets, and how does that actually work when you're on the platform when parents... Like, go through the process of like how do we sign up, how do we do all that kind of stuff? Sure! So the way it works is actually teachers go and teachers, as long as they are certified, they can go and sign up on our platform, and we also do the vetting process for them. Teachers sign up. They set their rates. If they want to teach virtually or in person or both. The subjects, the grades that they teach, and also if they have any other special certifications such as working with children with ADHD, with ADD, with dyslexia, or if they're on an IEP program. So they set all this information up, and then the parents go in and they set up their profiles and set up the students, and once they set up their criterias, which we make both criterias match.

Taylor: So it's like AI that goes together. And can you pick whether it's virtual, online, or-- Or, like, you know, I know, for my kids, I have three kids. So one likes to be online. The two like to actually go in and be with someone. So you can select whatever you want. The teachers, they get to have a choice as well in, say, if they want to teach in person or virtual. And the other thing that's nice about our platform is it's affordable for everyone. You can find teachers that have rates from, you know, $20 to $60, depending on what you need. And so what are some of the successes that you've found with this platform, so far, that you've created, right? Like, are you a software guru, would you say? I'm a software guru, yes. I've been-- Prior to this, I was in healthcare IT, and I've been in the software business for about 18 years now. Taylor: So you know how to match people up. So, what are the successes with this platform that you've found? Marilyn: So the successes of this platform have been families have been able to find the right support that customize tutoring for their child, the lesson planning. And that's like a big deal, right? If you're going to pay for someone to come and assist you, you want to make sure that you get quality, and I believe in quality versus quantity. Taylor: Right. Marilyn: And this is the reason why I created this platform, because there was nothing out there like this. Taylor: And so how can-- Again, how can teachers get on to Connect Education? How can students be a part of this? So you just go to FindaTutorNow.com. Signing up is free. Taylor: Yeah. And creating the profile is free as well. Taylor: Amazing. So if you're looking for teachers, you're looking for students, it's FindaTutorNow.com. Thank you so much, Marilyn, who's the CEO of Connect Education. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. That's awesome. Great advice there, some great insight. Absolutely. And like I said, growing up I really did have tutors, and they-- they helped get me to the finish line. It's important. We need to get there. A little delayed but I still at some point got there. That's all that matters. Thank you, Nicole. Thank you. Don't go anywhere, because up next, we check in with radio host Jamar McNeil and learn about CHUM's exciting car giveaway contest. Ah, yes! Yeah, cool. We're not eligible for the contest, though.
