Protesters at u of t aren't going anywhere, defying a trespass order that took effect at 8:00am cp24. Is christina tenaglia joins us live with more on that. What's the latest there? Hi melissa. I'm here in the national newsroom. So not out on location, but I can still tell you. >> The latest as to what's going on. So of this encampment, according at least to the university of toronto has been in place on their property since may, the second and it was last night, the late yesterday afternoon made made the is very clear that as of this morning at 8:00am the protesters would be trespassing. Formally, they issued a trespass notice and the request from the university of toronto formally based on this notice is that the protesters clear from the university of toronto's property. The king's college circle by 8 this morning eastern time. That did not happen the next step. According to the university of toronto, they publicly stated that they are seeking a court injunction. They're waiting for that to take place in terms of scheduling. We have seen this with other universities across the country. And even though the proceedings for take place quite quickly is still anywhere. 24 40 48 72 hours to a few days. So what an injunction does essentially is it will force. The protesters through the power of the courts to vacate the premises. If they don't, they will be found in contempt of court is essentially a cease and desist now from the protesters perspective at the university of the school's president presented on offer to the protesters a pretty thorough one last week on thursday. And the protesters said that's not good enough and presented their own thorough counteroffer yesterday, the 2 sides are scheduled to meet today. But at this point, a spokesperson for the pro-palestinian protesters says they're staying >> With 3 main demands that remain. Since thursday, when we received the first to operate an offer the ut we sent a counteroffer right kind of senior demands, what our lines are, what we're actually interested in seeing. And so we presented that to them at the meeting and then they spent, you know, what our trying to caucus and figure out, you know, their next steps and you know, we kind of have to see what happens again. Really, the ball's in their court right? Ed students are here. They will continue to be here. They will and divestment despite the threats of police, despite the threats of academic repercussions. >> Okay, so I want to give you some perspective. Of course, there's the idea of your constitutional right to freedom of expression and the freedom to assemble and protest. What the university is saying and they put in the last month is that, of course, has a canadian. It did institution, they recognize that of the importance of that and that is students in and of course, those affiliated with their school and canadians in general have that constitutional right in saying that though they have pointed out that the university of toronto property is private property. And while they from time to time authorize groups too used their property and encampment is not part of what they consider to be usage that they would authorize. And anyone who set up an encampment that would be trespassing. Now the u of t issued that reminder earlier this month. So the position from the university of toronto is this group has been trespassing for some time with let them stay and have their say. But it's time to go. The group is adamant they they feel very strongly passionate about their position and that they're staying back to you. Cristina tenaglia, thanks for that update. We appreciated we keep following the story now, ontario colleges and universities minister jill dunlop says >> She supports u of t taking legal action to put an end to the encampment. >> I had a call with the president a couple weeks ago.
