boycott? Do you think the blame is being misplaced here? E-mail us at now@cp24.com and we will share some of those responses this morning. I gauge the industry based on the price of toilet paper. You could see the spectrum as wild as it is. It was like less than ten dollars for 30 roles, and I was like I am scooping up. Spirit talking about the toilet paper. [ Laughter ] >> Bill: okay I have to thing about what I said. >> Lisa: oh boy. >> Bill: if I get one or two roles in that I am forced to go when there's no sales on, it could spend like 20 bucks or something. It is crazy. I do think -- he always talked -- there's gotta be some spectrum there because how could one day you charge one thing and then one day you charge a different. Are like it when I find a deal. >> Lisa: I think a lot of people do. It wasn't as much of a thing back in the day. And never did flyers and coupons. Like I will go here and do all my shopping. Now I find myself looking for sales. And also the way we shop, we used to shop at one of the bigger box stores your car won't name names, but I find ourselves doing more grocery shopping now because you get bang for your buck. It is tough. Will need food and we have to eat. How could you boycott a grocery store? Although I know people are doing it but it is tricky. We all have to eat. >> Jennifer: it is a hard issue. I don't know, we talk to sauvé charlebois and he said their summary supply chain issues, wars going on, there are factors we can't see that influence the cost. But there's also shrinkflation and all of this inflation. Here is a typic you want cheaper fruits or produce, the supermarkets in chinatown or koreatown, the little mom-and-pop corner shops there are good deals there. That's what my mom told me. It's just convenience. You're not driving by all the time. You will go to the loblaws because it's there. >> Nick: boycotts are interesting, and they have been tried for gas stations for example. But like you said, lisa, we all have to eat food. If you go to -- I'm not really super brand loyal but I do find there are some stores I generally don't go into. It feels like foreign countries. I can't find myself around, this aisle has this. You're completely unfamiliar. Again with the hectic day-to-day life, you want to go in and bang, bang, bang, straight up and down the aisles and go. I respect people are doing that, people are trying to make an impact. As you mentioned, it's incredibly hard to make it boycott like that work. We have all had conversations with professor charlebois, we think about the supply chain issues, the wars, what is going on in the middle east or ukraine, et cetera and how that's having an impact on getting food. Climate change as well. >> Bill: the anti- competitive thing I think is a big thing to get on. >> Nick: he has talked about that. There's almost none. >> Bill: you get a grocery store anchoring, and then in the clause of the deal you couldn't have another grocery store within a certain proximity. That is kept a lot of the big american chains coming in between. >> Jennifer: like a monopoly. >> Nick: they have a radius. >> Jennifer: twilight kind of agree. >> Nick: and that's the thing, charlebois said he has spoken to other foreign grocery chains about coming in and try to rework pieces of different plazas. It's not going to happen overnight. >> Lisa: the other thing, the loyalty programs they have. If you are not part of a certain grocery chain, that you don't get the dealer prices. White? Can we all just knock at the same price for everything? >> Bill: I have loyalty for everything. >> Lisa: >> Lisa: this is a hot button conversation this morning. Joined the conversation, now@cp24.com. Car you blaming the major chains for the higher grocery prices, or add potential other theory? >> Bill: oh. >> Nick: back after this. >>> Right now let's take a live shot for you along the shores of lake ontario. Really great to see people out and about this time of the morning. Although as much at his a chop of the lake this morning, last night was so windy, gusting and raining, and wasn't sure what I would wake up to. Like running for the car, the front door of the car and how wet was it going to get. It seems to have held off. Icy rain in the graphic. >> Bill: a temporary gap. I get what you mean neck about a it'll come back in earnest with rain and winds and thunderstorms that will last a early and midafternoon. The two sides did meet sunday afternoon and protesters presented what they described as a counter offer, only on the school to disclose all public investments in companies profiting from israel's offensive in gaza. >> Our counter offer is built on the fact that the office of the president has the ability to create new processes and even make decisions on issues like divestment without being bound to a process to begin with. We saw this in 2021, when the president finally unilaterally made the decision to divest from fossil fuel companies. He didn't need a process, he didn't need a committee. The 2014 to 2016 ad hoc committee process was not even restarted. The president simply made the decision, and it was done. In pressing times like the middle of a genocide, it is a moral obligation to act swiftly. >> Nick: statement from the university of toronto reads in part, if the encampments remains noncompliant with the trespass notice we will be preceding to court to seek injunctive relief through an urgent hearing. >> Jennifer: the mayor and chief of police are expected to show their support at a north york jewish girls school this morning that was hit by gunfire over the weekend. It wasn't quite enough to dethrone taylor swift's new album from the top of the charts nothing to be disappointed about. The news of these female artists in the first and second billboard spots comes after rumours of a feud between taylor and billy, which became even more plausible when billy called taylor's three hour-long concerts psychotic spirit okay. Here is what people are sick about billie eilish's new album and gilbert's excess pick this person chiming and saying she should be proud to be hard hard and soft deserved the number 1 spot. She has done well. Each of these opening weeks are really strong, at top of that she is going on to she is a great artist and one that will definitely leave a mark. >> Jennifer: okay this next one says she deserved a number 1 but she put up a great fight pickle get that number 1 with the release of the double album. >> Nick: she keeps when he, it is billie's world and we are living in it. We are just living in the world and we are all fish. Okay. This one says being number 2 with 339 thousand is insane. The other later, taylor swift, is literally creating inflation in the music charts spear that is a good point. That is very true. Just based on the numbers, it's kind of like this rising tide raises all boats. Silicate of thing. The fact there's a little bit of a feud.
