So let's bring in our film critic richard crouse. Right, let's start with the mad max origin stories go furiosa. It's got 4 and it looks jacked. >> Yeah, this is a pretty great stuff. So george miller who is may 5 mad max movies in the last 45 is furiosa, which is the origin story of the warrior that we met about 10 years ago in fury road, where best action movies ever made,

which was played by shirley sherrod. Now she is played by our new territory for most of this film. And it is as pedal to the metal as you would hope it would nobody shoots action seems quite the same way that george is able to, they are for debt or the camera is in constant motion near exciting. It's like those old monster truck ads that say you'll pay for the whole seat, but you'll only use the edge as you slowly work your way up to the front of the seat because this movie is so grossing, there's action scene here called the stowaway sequence took 78 days to shoot and it will make eyes pop out of their sockets. I give it 4 out of 5 it's really quite something to see it as large loud as he possibly fury road and that stressed me out. It was nonstop adrenaline. My body had no time to just relax. >> All right, moving on now that richard linklater is hitman is comedy and part action movie. >> But does it mesh? >> It sure does. This is one of my favourite movies from the last toronto international film festival, glenn powell. We know him from top gun maverick the romantic comedy just made to sydney sweeney here. He plays a guy named gary sort of a boring dude who has a sideline records staff for his local police department. They'll send in a police officer trust as a hit man are pretending to be a hit man and they will entrapped someone who once a loved or a business associate or something like that killed. He's recording it all during, make sure they get all want. Wednesday undercover is no longer able to do the job. Jerry stark said. Turns out he's really good at it until he meets one's person, who falls in love with. And she seems to fall in love with him, but there might be bored. Her story. And this is smart. It's partly it has a scene about three quarters of the way through the movie that with the audience and I saw this with burst into applause after it was over it was dot will perform start well written funny with the slots to kind of edge to that pervades all the way through the entire again, just one 4 to 5 stars is called hitman and it's in theatres right now. It's really worth a all right, we're really seeing his star just blow up attending a sort it's have. Yeah. >> Will be a superstar by the end of the weekend. I think people get a chance to see this movie and no doubt marvel movie, that's that's kind of how their progression goes. All right. I know this guy's going to get one, but there's a garfield movie now who asked for this. Well, apparently enough people to make sure the crisp ride one of the most in the bad actors in turned up to do the voice of garfield. >> The cat from the comic strips. There's been a few movies in the past. This one is a big computer generated a film and it's called the garfield movie, but it doesn't really feel like our garfield movie. If you read the comic strip, you know, the car fielders kind of sardonic he likes to nap or take frequent naps sleeps all it's a lot of those on he does that in the mean someone was on the in the for all the other stuff gets thrown out into the trash to make way for a big generic actions story for kids. And while garfield us to really behave like garfield, I don't think sickkids will bide all that much. It's a lot of fun if you're term or 11 years old. That's absolutely who this movie is aimed at. They probably don't know who garfield is anyway, so they care he doesn't sleep all day that he doesn't insult best friend, od and all the other stuff that goes along with the comic strips. What this movie does is just deliver a big generic action movie. So I gave 3 out of 5 stars is starring in theatres right turned 11 year-olds were probably like it. Parents may be a little less that may be so. Chris pratt has been a lego guy. He's been mario now our field. What's next was 30 decide to around it. And the trudeau government is releasing new details on why it rejected toronto's request to decriminalize possession of illegal drugs. Still to come, what premier ford had to say. Is to 31 26 degrees restaurant breaking news, cp24. Good afternoon. I'm phil perkins. Thanks for joining our top story. Ontarians will soon be able to buy beer, wine cider and ready to drink alcohol at corner stores. The province announced today that they've moved out their plan to expand alcohol sales with availability at convenience stores coming on september 5th grocery stores already would licenses will be able to sell a larger cases of beer as of august. 1st. And by the end of october, more big box stores will be allowed to sell the lower alcohol beverages like beer, wine. This sped-up plan is going to cost us though. And to have 225 million dollars to help out the beer store with this transition as well as giving a discount to convenience stores. Premier ford announced this accelerated plan to expand the sale of beer and wine to a variety of stores across the province. >> As of october 31st, every convenience, grocery and big box store in ontario will be

able to sell beer cider wine and ready to drink alcoholic beverages as we enter this new marketplace. The beer store and the lcbo. We'll continue to play a big role spirits like vodka, gin and whisky will continue to be sold at the lcbo. The beer store will remain active and distribution recycling. And as a valid retailer. >> And most the people we spoke with today say they're okay with a plan. The ending. It >> Any like downside to do >> No, I think its responsibility of the people to be able cells. And you buy the well, I don't live in the city, but if I had a party, I won't stop honest thing as long as you're responsible and you know your limits, I think you should be fine. And from the states. So. >> I think not uncommon there at all. I think and might facilitate peoples. He's trafficking, they have more options to get like that, get things places like that. I think that we all right. >> Ctv political commentator scott rees thinks a premier ford believes that expanding alcohol sales is going to be popular with voters. Doug ford loves nothing more than peddling the beer story and you know, it's, it's the beer store of your story and it's worked well for him, you know, buck-a-beer in the original 2014 election campaign quarters, he's going to get it. But you see the price, you got to pay 225 million dollars to the largest breweries, multinational breweries in the world. And so we're going to pay more to what may be paying more for that case of beer in a corner store, but it's popular. People would like that that community shake their head and say what we have already they got quebec, it seems ridiculous. Let's get it. So we're going to get. Well, not everyone supports this expansion. Doctor leslie buckley as the head of addictions camh who joins us live in said there. >> Many safeguards need to be in place to reduce harms. >> It really all comes down to accessibility. So there's multiple studies that show that the single most important lever that impacts the amount of alcohol consumed by a society is accessibility and between mean, by that, we mean price. So the minimum price plus taxes. So the higher the price, the less consumed the hours of availability and the retail density. So you know, all those things are increasing at this point. And we know that that will have an impact in terms of consumption of alcohol. >> Earlier this month, a coalition of health organizations, including the canadian cancer society, the canadian mental health association and can age police. A letter calling for a comprehensive strategy to deal with increased alcohol consumption that will come with change. It says harms linked to drinking cost the province more than 7 billion dollars a year. That's more than tobacco and opioids combined. 2.35 feel like 27 outside. Mister says that she decided the night after toronto refused to amend the proposal to address concerns from her department applications out to decriminalize possession of all controlled drugs and substances for personal use. Now premier ford was asked about the federal government denying toronto's request for personal use is we had to say. >> As long as I'm premier, we're never going to decriminalize hardcore drugs. What I believe in, we need more detox centres. We need more rehab rehabilitation centres, but we sure the heck don't need people shooting up and doing drugs in neighbourhoods like mississauga were anywhere and that kaysen in ontario. >> Federal government says it is open to adding more medications to the list of drugs proposed by pharmacare program.
