A family of bolton were eventually reunited in france, but their march vacation did not get off to a good start. A demo and francesca purchase tickets for themselves and their children using expedia. >> But during the process, a mistake was made. My passport was in my made in need. >> And my itinerary was booked in my mary thing. The couple say at the time of the booking, the agent used the name on francesca's credit card. They say they were told their passports were not needed at that time. When we asked the agent at the time of booking. We require passports. We were told no. >> And that we would add that information at the airport. >> But when the family arrived at pearson airport, francesca's name on the ticket did not match or passports at first, they were told it would be an easy fix, but it wasn't and she was not allowed on the plane. >> N was a little bit the devastating to be kind ripped apart at that point where they have to leave and I can join. Then she had to buy a new ticket the next day at her own expense for $2800. The family feels expedia should cover that cost. The fact that couldn't get on the plane was their fault for not making sure my ticket was booked appropriately and properly. Ctv news reached out to expedia and a spokesperson said the name included in the reservation was one that was provided by the traveller over the phone. We had every intention of providing assistance. However, we could not make changes as the flight had already been marked as a no show by the airline partner. >> In the past, we've done stories on families that had to pay almost $1000 to change the name on a ticket. And on a man who was denied boarding a flight because an was missing from his name. The deschenes is still feel they deserve a refund. We volunteer to use our passports and were outright told we weren't needed, which is what led to this problem. >> Pat foran, ctv news. >> Canada's competition bureau is looking into the conduct a sobeys and loblaws the major grocery chains. [olg sting] >> Province of ontario speeding up its expansion of alcohol sales in the province will have reaction coming up. Pro-palestinian protesters at u of t are responding to the schools offer to end their encampment. We'll tell you what they're saying. And as the first day of advance voting in mississauga's mayoral by-election, voters can cast their ballots mississauga city hall today and tomorrow. 2:00 25 degrees from 299 queen street west. You're watching toronto's breaking news cp24. Good afternoon. I'm phil perkins. Thanks for joining us. Our top story ontarians will soon be able to buy beer, wine cider and ready to drink alcohol at corner stores. The province announced today that they've moved up their plan to expand alcohol sales with availability at convenience stores coming on september 5th grocery stores already that would licenses will be able to sell a larger cases of beer as of august. 1st. And by the end of october, more big box stores will be allowed to sell the lower alcohol beverages like beer and wine. This sped-up plan is going to cost taxpayers, though, to the tune of 225 million dollars to help of the beer store with the transition as well as getting a discount to convenience stores. Now under the new plan, the lcbo will have wholesale discounts for retailers, meaning stores can sell for 10% cheaper. Then the lcbo premier ford was asked

about that cost to taxpayers. >> The monopoly with that. The 3 big breweries they're done, they're gone. We're going make sure it's convenient for people and be treated like everyone else in the country be treated like everyone else down. Down in the U.S. north america everywhere you can walk into a store and take up a can of beer. A case of beer bottle of wine. Ready to drink. And that's what we're doing. We're keeping our promise and we're going to move forward on this in and it's overwhelmingly. >> Now that most of the people we spoke with today support the expansion plan. >> Not a good because too many underage people buying them to the other pieces of it working well for the so not working well for it works other places. I don't know why wouldn't work here and it's, it's really just how they're going regulated. I think it should just stick to lcbo stores like god. >> Because then the there's no age limit great at a convenience store late teenagers can go by jews. So I guess that's the reason. >> As ctv political commentator scott reid, things premier ford believes expanding alcohol sales will be popular with voters. Doug ford loves nothing more than peddling the beer story and you know, it's, it's the beer store of your story and it's worked well for him. >> You know, buck-a-beer in the original 2014 election campaign beer quarters, he's going to get it. But you see the price, you got to pay 225 million dollars to the largest breweries, multinational breweries in the world. And so we're going to pay more to what may be paying more for that case of beer in a corner store, but it's popular. People would like that that community shake their head and say what we have already they got quebec, it seems ridiculous. Let's get it. So we're going to get it. But not everyone supports this expansion. Doctor leslie buckley is the head of addictions that can ag joins us live said there are many safeguards that need to be in place. >> Careful about serving and selling, making sure that people are certified for selling alcohol product, making sure that the alcohol is kept, you know, away from other areas, putting labels on alcohol to talk about you know, the harms from alcohol and then of course, you know, health promotion strategies. So we're really worried about violence and domestic violence, which is already seeing increases. And we know how to link that is to alcohol. We're worried about duis. So we need, you know, health, we need health promotion, we need to, you know, talk up the harms of health so that people understand that better. >> Earlier this month, a coalition of health organizations, including the canadian cancer society, the canadian mental health association at camh released a letter calling for a comprehensive strategy to deal with increased alcohol consumption. That will come with the change it says harms linked to drinking cost the province more than 7 billion dollars a year has more than tobacco and opioids combined. All right, 205 right now, 25 degrees is take a look at traffic right now on this friday. Here's a how's it looking? >> Hey fell, looking ok, there's a couple collisions on the road right now. So let's take a look at the cameras. They're moving us one around quite a bit, but there's a collision on 427. At the for one it's blocking the centre lane right now, but they have tow trucks on scene and they're trying to clear it out. But it's right here, if you can see through the blur, that kind of focus. The camera. But over on to 427 northbound the right lane and right shoulder remain blocked due to a collision that happened earlier. That car is up on this truck and they're going to move it shortly. Traffic is heavy, otherwise across the board. It's friday. This is expected. This is the westbound gardiner between lower jarvis and strachan. It's moving slowly right now. It's going take about 25 minutes at last check. This is giving you another angle here at bathurst and on northbound dvp volume is building around pottery road to york mills. It's going to take about 25 minutes at last check on the main roads out of camera view the southbound spadina and dundas. All lanes were blocked due to police investigation that has now cleared its reopened. Kingston kingston road at pickering street, east and westbound lanes are closed due to another police investigation and dufferin street at st. Clair west. One left lane is blocked due to a collision that setback to rising. I thank so much for the update. I'm moving on now the organizers of a pro-palestinian encampment at the university of toronto say that they are still deciding their next steps after the school gave them 24 hours to consider an offer. >> To end the demonstrations, students say that they are appalled by the university's approach. Connie offer inadequate and an ultimatum. The school says it's prepared to issue trespass notices if the encampment is in cleared by 4:00pm u of t is offering

an invite to students to present their demands. University's business board of governing council for me working group to consider disclosure of its investments university said that it will not and any partnerships with israeli universities. >> Document. Is a farce. This document is nothing but a summary of their already existing procedure on divestment and disclosure with a few minor tweaks to bait us into thinking that we're getting a good deal out of this. It took 3 weeks for this. Is this the administration's idea of a good faith negotiation. >> That's completely abandoned their moral duty to uphold human rights. And dignity. We will continue doing everything we can to drag this institution into meeting its obligation to students and to the world. Just as every generation of student protests has. >> Well, juice student advocacy group of hillel ontario is calling for the removal of the encampment, saying reports of anti-semitism and intimidation on campus have not been addressed by the university. Well, switching gears now, it is the first day of advance voting in mississauga's mayoral by-election. Voters can cast their ballots at mississauga city hall today and tomorrow.
