that have revealed closer involvement by the premier and his staff than previously demonstrated, including direct meetings with developers. She writes, "i urge you to closely review this new information to assess whether further investigations are warranted into the conduct of premier ford and his staff and provide the public with a progress update on the current investigation." >> We'd like to know who knew what when and if anyone will potentially be charged. More and more information is coming out, and there's a clear trail to the premier's office. >> It's a sharp issue for the liberals to get out in front of doug ford all the time. >> I think there have been some revelations recently in some media reports that have caused her and her team to say, look. We can bring some life to this. >> Tina: the rcmp announced in october that it would investigate the ford government's plan to open up protected greenbelt land for development, a plan that was ultimately scrapped after widespread public backlash. >> I made a promise to you that I wouldn't touch the greenbelt. I broke that promise. And, for that, I'm very, very sorry. >> Tina: two provincial watchdogs found the process to select which lands were removed from the greenbelt was flawed and favoured certain developers, but the premier's office has maintained it had no direct knowledge of the proposed changes. >> No doubt what has been put out to the rcmp, even if it's not responded to in an appropriate way or timing, it has now fuelled more questions about something which is a burr under the saddle to the government. >> I think ontarians deserve to know. Certainly this scandal, this fiasco really eroded trust in the government, and I think that's so important. >> Tina: the premier's office has only responded to saw say any questions should be directed to the rcmp. In a statement the rcmp tell us it understands this issue is of significant interest to the people of ontario, but as this is an ongoing investigation, it cannot provide further information at this time. For "CityNews," I'm tina yazdani. >> Cynthia: cleanup is under way after a line of tornadoes ripped through a town in central texas, toppling buildings and destroying homes. The extreme weather comes as parts of the state swelter under a relentless heat wave. The mercury has soared above 45° celsius in recent days, putting centuries-old temperature records in danger. Now, natasha, it feels like tornado season is under way. But you're looking at some really surprising and alarming stats for us here that are impacting us here. >> Natasha: tornado alley which is typically right in the middle of the U.S. smoving a little further north into canada and a little further east and so that means we're seeing less across the prairies and more from ontario to quebec city from windsor to quebec city. That's where the most people live in canada. And so I think it's a troubling trend of course and canada reports the most tornadoes out of any country outside of U.S. average tornadoes per month in U.S. april which s when things really get heated and then in may and june it moves north because of course the heat is moving north. But like I said this is starting to shift to the east. I think over the coming decades that red in june in through the middle and going up into the prairies you're going to see it more towards iowa, new york, pennsylvania and up into southern ontario. This is one of the shifts that we're seeing with climate change and the shifting atmosphere as well. Here, though, it's just a few clouds. You can't even see them on the satellite radar. It's the puffy white ones that don't any ran rain. High pressure will do so again tomorrow. We to have some precipitation over the next five days but it's not every day. Here are the days it's going to rain. Not tomorrow. Saturday, monday and tuesday but most of that rain is coming through on monday with the risk of thunderstorms. So after we get through that clear friday if you've got stuff to do outdoors, saturday you try to get in a jog or bike ride or get groceries try and do it before noon because that's when things will start deteriorating. We'll see some passing showers and thunderstorms up until about 3, 4 p.m. After that you're good to go go for your barbecue dinner friday night. Also dry and mild this evening at 19°. This is what you're waking up to tomorrow morning. It's not bad 13. Again sun filled day tomorrow with temperatures above seasonal. Look at that map. Like that was an easy map to draw. Sun, sun, sun and so make sure you've got the sunscreen and of course the sunglasses. These warm temperatures that we've been spoiled with above sees until temperatures are going to last for another few days here but there's a tiny little bit of a dip. There's one part of the province under a frost advisory right now. We'll take a tiny dip ourselves as we head towards the last few days of may. I'll show you in a bit. >> Announcer: next on "CityNews" -- >> Cynthia: the race to become mississauga's next

A june 7th strike date has been set for about 12,000 T.T.C. workers. If a new deal isn't reached, service delays and cancellations are likely. But it's not clear if that would mean a complete system shutdown. A man is dead and a teenager fighting for his life after a late-night shooting. The new franchise will begin playing in 2026 at coca-cola coliseum at exhibition place. Can you watch those full stories on citynews.ca and "CityNews 24/7". The battle lines have been drawn. In just over two weeks, voters in one of ontario's largest cities will be heading to the polls to elect a new mayor. And for those who are still deciding who to vote for, tonight is a must see tv. "CityNews 24/7" will be airing a live debate starting at 7 p.m. Right after our newscast. And the moderator for tonight is our one and only mark McALLISTER who joins us now. Mark, who is going to be participating in tonight's debate? >> Mark: well, cynthia, we will have four people on stage with us tonight, of the 20 mayoral candidates that are taking part in the actual election itself. One, however, will be notably absent. This is all based on polling over the last few weeks. And carolyn parrish is the one name that stands out as the person who has been atop of the polls. She has declined not to take part in tonight's debate and other debates for her own reasons. She has said she would prefer to spend time with the voters and speak to them one on one. That said, the four that are taking part here tonight, dipika damerla. She's going to be here. Alvin tedjo is going to be here and we're going to be joined by stephen dasko and brian crombie. The first three of course are city councillors as we speak. Brian crombie, best known as the ex-husband of former mayor bonnie crombie, but also an executive within the private sector. Lots to talk about here tonight. We're going to have plenty of different themes as well, cynthia. >> Cynthia: mark, it's fascinating. This is a very large city, one of the largest in ontario and it's high up there in canada as well. There have only been two mayors in decades. Hazel McCALLION, bonnie crombie. What are the main themes you're going to be covering tonight?

what matters to mississaugans? >> Mark: I think first and foremost, it is food banks mississauga that is hosting this event tonight so you can bet that we're going to be concentrating quite a bit on affordability and food security and income security, making sure that the people of mississauga certainly have candidates that do have platforms that are going to speak to those specific needs. And as well you know that a big part of that conversation is affordable housing and making sure people have roofs over their head and have the ability to find that place to live despite the fact that they might be earning a lower income as well. So when we talk about food banks specifically, I do want to point out that march saw the highest number of food bank users ever here at food banks mississauga, at nearly 20,000. That's a 20% increase over last year alone. And so that's why we're here. We want to hear from the candidates specifically about what they have on tap in terms of their platforms. >> Cynthia: sense of what voters will be looking to hear from the candidates tonight? >> Mark: well, cynthia, you and I well know that, in covering many, many elections, voters first and foremost want to make sure that they hear what they want to hear from the platforms and that there is some solid platforms available, and not just rhetoric from politicians or want-to-be politicians at the podium and making sure that they're offering what people simply want to hear. So something solid, something that people can dive into and make sure that they know is going to be delivered. And as you've pointed out as well. Here in mississauga specifically, there is a matter of stability. We know that hazel McCALLION was here as the mayor for many, many decades, and we know that bonnie crombie was here as mayor for ten years beyond that. They want to be able to look at the people here on this stage tonight, and any other candidate, and know that they might be here for a while and they're going to be able to deliver. >> Cynthia: all right, mark. Thank you very much. It's going to be an interesting debate. And you can watch mark moderate tonight's mississauga mayoral debate over on "CityNews 24/7" starting right after our show at 7 p.m. And with that election looming, a new report claims peel region is being underfunded by the province by hundreds of millions of dollars each year, leaving individuals scrambling to fill the gaps. >> We get a staggering $868 million less per year than the other communities. That equates to $576 for every person every single year. >> Cynthia: and that shortfall impacts several local services including housing, schools, child care and senior care. That forces mississauga, brampton and caledon to reallocate about $140 from each resident's property taxes to help cover the difference. >> The study was conducted by a network of nonprofit agencies and presented to peel regional council for both information and action. >> Kyle: it's kyle hocking in brampton. As I mentioned in our last report, here's the closure of bovaird east of chinguacousy acrash here that peel regional police also involved one of their cruisers. Woo I believe it's this cruiser here in the middle of your screen had a that has ended up some distance apart from the other two vehicles that were involved. It does only sound like there were minor injuries to one of the drivers of these other two voakes so a cleanup will have to go on plus an investigation. You can see an officer there taking some notes. This section of bovaird east of chinguacousy will be closed or for some time for at least drivers. Pedestrians getting through. Very heavy delay if you're approachings from the west. Westbound traffic approaching from the east. Westbound traffic is very heavily backed up diverted onto residential streets.
