Try one today. [ ] >> Sid: in july of 2020, colin and justin did the ultimate seasonal adjustment when they upped sticks as the kids say, and set off to redesign and run an oceanside hotel in cape breton called north star. These incredible designers -- and look at these pictures -- are heading into their fourth summer and we could certainly use their expertise to refresh our home for the summer. Ladies and gentlemen, colin and justin! >> Good morning, you too! [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Come on, sid! What an entrance! >> Come on now -- >> Meredith: we're better for it. Thank you for being here today. >> Oh my god, thank you for having us. We are literally living the canadian dream. We wake up, the atlantic ocean is on our doorstep. We're in a hotel on a cliff on a beach, overlooking a harbour with fishing boats. There's a lighthouse! There's coastal trails! An 18th century fortress in our view -- >> Meredith: it has a fortress, sid! >> We have a fortress! >> Meredith: you've had success in your career and rightly so, but a lot of people maybe think about doing this one day or I want to go open an inn, but they don't do it. You did it. How did you do it? >> Then the middle of the pandemic we thought we want to do something completely led by us, something that allows us to perform in the way we want to. We fancied a bed and breakfast or hotel and the plan got bigger and bigger. We started watching the options available and this guy -- formally called point of view suites as my grandma would say, s-h-i-t with adjustment. >> Sid: never too early to spell. >> We jumped to it and completely t tnsformed it and we were lucky the previous owners maintained it really well. But we reidentified it. Jumps down there and being hands-on and running it as a decompression from the real stress and anxiety of city life has been amazing! >> Sid: I love that you guys did this. Hello north star.ca for more information. Anything else on this before we move on and get summer -- >> If you come and stay, you could be sleeping with colin and justin, sid. Literally. >> Sid: if that's not a hook, I don't know what it is. >> I don't know -- >> Sid: no one is showing up if that was mine. No one is showing up. >> You'd be surprised is. [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Sid: talking about the indoor summer refresh here. Where do you want to begin? I'm going to back off and let you do your thing >> We have done the ultimate seasonal adjustment. You changed your wardrobe, why not swap out your decor. Number one, add sunshine. If it's not sunny outside, bring it inside. That's one of our hotel rooms there and we have used beautiful sunshine colours in there to give you that sense of warmth and welcome. Do that in your home with soft furnishings. It's easy to change when the seasons changes. >> Meredith: a lot of people follow people like you, I want my house to look a little different. When I try to do it it's not quite the same. >> Yes. >> Meredith: there you did a couple of things.

wasn't just one thing -- >> If we l l our lives and changed everything all the time, you spend all your money and never keep up with your ambition. The best way is take a back seat for a moment and think about it and reset as the seasons change. I think that's what we do best at north star. Because as every season approaches we go back -- we leave on friday -- filming a new show at the moment which is top secret. That will be on in october. We'll come and tell you about that another time. >> Meredith: okay, good! Part two >> We head out to nova scotia to turn chicken poo into chicken pie once again and transform the hotel. Can I just say in all the things we've ever done, it has been the most joy. Probably sounds like a cliche, we meet our public on a daily basis. They don't think it's us fixing the lee -- >> Meredith: you are there? >> We are there. We're hands-on. We have an amazing manager called mrs. Julie mcdonald. She's a superstar maritime woman and in her 70s and performs like a kid. >> Morning julie! >> Sid: wait a second, wait a second. If I'm there and call down, I need towels -- >> We're your busboys? >> Sid: you're on the front door? >> Meredith: all the time. >> Turn down service. Not tonight, darling. [ Laughter ]. >> Meredith: they're tired tonight, sid. >> You got to be hands-on, if you want to have fun with it. That's what we wanted to do, meredith. We wanted to get out there and get into it and properly attach ourselves to the way it works. It's been a meeting of minds of the community in louisbourg, a beautiful town in the maritimes in cape breton, is just welcoming and has allowed us the opportunity to go out there and shine. I am exhausted at the moment because we've been working so hard. But although I'm going to work even harder it's going to wake me back up. Does that even make sense? >> Meredith: yes, it does. That's the east coast way. You work hard, but the ocean is there, the goodness of the people around you. >> That's it. >> Meredith: I was thinking too, we have more designer tips to get through. Go to the inn. Get inspired there. >> Go to the inn -- [ speaking simultaneously ] >> Firsthand from the colin -- >> Act of getting away. It's about we -- we wrote that book at the start of the pandemic and it's just been so sell received. Could have tapped -- fifth print run. >> Sid: congratulations. >> Whether you read our book or check into the hotel, you give yourself a moment to destress and take away the worries of life. It's fun, colin, isn't it? >> For the most part. >> What do you mean for the most part -- >> It is tons of fun. Because it's escapist and it's about living your best life and don't we all want to do that? >> Meredith: we do. You've shown us how to do it. It's the experience, sid. That's what -- [ speaking simultaneously ] >> It is. Overwhelming wave of joy. >> Meredith: I'm glad I could bring the sports daddy back -- >> Can you believe it? >> Sid: I've been doing this show since 2021. That line is referred to me back at least top three in terms of things that have been said on this show when I've been on. Your sports daddy comment. >> I love it. >> Sid: the way you would deliver it. Bless your heart. >> You know you're my sports daddy. >> Meredith: there it is! >> A little bit messy, thank god you're here to moderate, meredith. >> Meredith: moderating meredith! >> Sid: but in all seriousness, you're busy but always give us time. We love seeing you.u. When the top secret show that you're doing is available to be unearthed please come back. Ladies and gentlemen, colin and justin! [ applause ] >> Sid: we're going to take a break. "you sound off" coming up later on. What is your etiquette go to? We're going to talk about etiquette later on. We're going to do a "you sound off." pair it together, you have a show. feedback@breakfasttelevision.ca. More "bt" coming up after this. Welcome to Wrexham. All new Thursday's at 10. on fx and Citytv+. [ ] >> Tammie: coming up on 9:02 here on "breakfast television." welcome back. Time has run out. It's been almost a month since a pro-palestinian encampment took over part of a university of toronto campus and lawyers representing the school, they have now filed an injunction to clear that encampment. Our caryn ceolin is live on school grounds this morning with more on that and a rally that's underway right now. Caryn? >> Caryn: tammie, there are well over 100 people here standing in the rain in solidarity with pro-palestinian protesters who have been entrenched at the university of toronto's downtown campus for weeks now. That rally is still underway, as you can see. Dozens upon dozens of people are gathered here to show their support. Now, this morning lawyers representing the university of toronto served documents seeking an injunction order from the ontario superior court of justice and they've asked for an expedited hearing to schedule that injunction. Protesters, of course, they have been here demanding that the university disclose its public investments to companies that may be profiting from the war in gaza and divest. U of t countered with its own offer to form working groups to consider the requests. Organizers who are here today say they don't need more committees, they need commitments. They need commitments for divestment and commitments for the university to disclose its public investments. Have a listen. >> It is the shame that u of t would rather call the police on its students than quit investing in weapons and bombs. It's a shame they want to shift the blame of calling the police on their staff and students through a court order just for their pr. It's a shame. >> Caryn: now several labour unions are taking part in today's rally to show their support for the protesters in an effort to hopefully force the school to comply with the protesters' demands, that includes the ontario federation of labour president laura walton, had a few remarks about why it is important they take part. Here is what she had to say. >> But the president thinks this is a one-off. Let me be clear, we're just getting started. [ cheering and applause ] >> And we will keep coming back until they stop the threats and until the students get the deal that they need. >> Caryn: now, the university's president released a statement just before this rally got under underway. He says in addition to the legal avenues that the university is exploring to clear out this
