Ready to deliver smiles to seniors at st. Michaels seniors home. >> We decided to establish a thing called epic living room. So we would basically go and buy things for the seniors. And entirely, today is the day we are putting it down so that it is possible for them to have a nice place so that people feel more welcome to go and visit their old grandma and grandpas. >> Reporter: last year, some fathers from the catholic elementary school had a chance to help out the seniors through what they called the humming bird project. After seeing last year's success, they decided on the first day of this school year, make the project even bigger and include every student. >> I am very proud that I took the first step in my team as well. If it wasn't for us, we probably never would have done this. And I am proud we were able to, and make seniors have a smile on their face. >> Reporter: the team of students organized budgets, grocery lists and a design of what the final space would look like. Decorated with art and new books and board games. Judy has been a resident for three years. She says after the kids started popping in, it has really brightened the space. >> We tend to get a little bit selfish and grumpy in our old age. And then when these beautiful young children come in to just give us, you know, themselves, their love, it just opens our world so much. It is beautiful. >> Reporter: throughout the school year, students have visited once a week. >> We don't believe it is just today or tomorrow and this year we can help, but throughout our entire life. >> I hope it never stops. Never. Under a controversial change by the previous conservative government. The liberals have tabled new legislation which would allow canadians born abroad to pass down their citizenship to children also born outside of the country. >> There is no doubt that canadian citizenship is highly valued and recognized around the world. We want citizenship to be fair, accessible, with clear and transparent rules. >> Reporter: the immigration minister, mark miller says canadian parents must show they have spent at least three years in canada before the birth or adoption of their child to be eligible. The proposed changes come months after an ontario court ruled that the current law is unconstitutional.
